A Sim Racing Direct Drive Wheel Will Change Your Life

I decided to fire up my racing simulator. At that moment, I was using a belt-driven wheelbase — not bad, it got the job done — but something just didn’t feel right. The corners didn’t feel real, the bumps were just distant hums, and every time I lost control of the car, I couldn’t feel it coming.

That day, after my virtual car flew off track for the fifth time, I decided to do something. I quit the game, opened my browser… and bought a Direct Drive.

For those who don’t know, in the world of Sim Racing, a Direct Drive wheelbase isn’t just a luxury — it’s the Holy Grail of immersion. Unlike belt- or gear-driven systems, a Direct Drive transmits power directly from the motor to the steering shaft. No intermediaries.

The result? Every millimeter of the track, every bump, every change in grip… you feel it. Really feel it.

Then comes the power of the motor. This is where the numbers start to matter. I won’t bore you with technical jargon, but if you see something like “over 4 Nm/s”, pay attention. That’s the kind of responsiveness that separates the good from the truly exceptional. Mine had that. Every turn became a conversation between the car and me. I wasn’t steering on instinct anymore — I was feeling it.

And most importantly: durability. The motor behind these wheels isn’t just any motor. It comes from industrial environments, tested to last for years under pressure. Most of them come with warranties of 3 to 5 years. But the truth is, if you take care of it, it’ll last you a decade. It’s an investment, yes. Expensive? Also yes. But like any great investment, it gives back more than you put in.

So if you’re thinking about taking the leap — do it. Because a Direct Drive isn’t just a steering wheel. It’s a door. To another level. To a new way of feeling speed. And believe me, once you cross it… there’s no turning back.

Happy Racing!

  1. Nice writing. Should have expounded more on your experience after you got it. I went from a logi g923 for PS to the G pro, and I agree, I’m not going back. Gave my son the 923 and he plays with the G pro.
