The Assetto Corsa Competizione British Pack has arrived on PC and we have had the DLC in our hands to test in depth each of the 3 British circuits that have arrived in the simulator, these are Oulton Park, Donington Park and Snetterton.
Undoubtedly, these are three of the most important circuits in Britain, all owned by MotorSport Vision, who also own Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park and Bedford Autodrome. With these new additions we have practically all the British circuits with major international events within the simulator, as we also have the legendary Silverstone circuit.
Without a doubt, the quality and level of detail that Assetto Corsa Competizione’s circuits have as they are released is impressive, thanks in large part to the use of the Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine. All 3 circuits are very similar to the real circuits, in terms of the track as such it’s nothing unusual as all the circuits are scanned, but it’s the off-track objects and details like the plane landing at Donington where they really stand out. Even real drivers like James Baldwin claim that these are the closest to real circuits in all the simulators.
Oulton Park is the bumpiest of the 3 circuits and has the most elevation changes, making it quite tricky to drive some cars like the McLaren. The circuit, also known as the “Mini Nordschleife”, only has the GP version with the two chicanes after the banked hairpin. It is a very tricky circuit to overtake (like the other three) where focusing on keeping the car on track and perfect braking is essential for good results.
On the other hand, Donington is the smoothest circuit, where I had the best feeling behind the wheel and the best overall experience. The fact that you can see planes landing above you while you’re racing is an experience unlike anything else in any other simulator, and with VR goggles it must be quite impressive. It’s also the most modern version of the circuit in any simulator, where we can even see what Starkey’s Bridge looks like today. Previously what was left of the bridge was complete with a Donington billboard with a model plane on top, whereas now you only see what’s left of the bridge with a respective restoration.
Lastly we have Snetterton, a circuit that many people don’t like. In terms of bumps it is somewhere in between the two, but there are a couple of inside kerbs that are in the middle of the bumps and can easily knock you off the track. The famous tree at turn 2 is still there, even though it was blown down by a bad storm last year. Of the 3 tracks, it is the flattest of them all, where there are very few elevation changes due to the fact that the track is set on what used to be a WWII airbase.
This is a must have DLC for racing and track lovers in general, where you can have spectacular races with a very high and reliable visual quality. To all simracers who give a lot of hours to this simulator, we recommend to have this DLC as well as all the others that have been released before.
