Gran Turismo 7 ‘s new features do not appear to be sufficient to keep the franchise as the FIA’s official competitive game. The last official game for FIA Esports competitions was Gran Turismo Sport, but with the release of the franchise’s new game, Gran Turismo 7 , the official collaboration will end, and its place will be taken by another classic franchise: Assetto Corsa.
The new game for the competitive FIA Esports games, Assetto Corsa Competizione , will center on the Assetto Corsa GT3 vehicles, with 80 candidates for the 20 seats in this year’s final of the official competition, which will be contested in October.
This is also not a major setback for Gran Turismo and its creators at Polyphony Digital, since the series has successfully established its own Esports environment in recent years, which has the full backing of the brand and numerous high-level sponsors. This is the Gran Turismo Global Series, a tournament featuring GT7 as the main game that has already been confirmed for this year.
On the other side, Assetto Corsa Competizione has a far more realistic simulation approach, thus the FIA’s choice appears to be something that does not harm anyone and, in fact, benefits them.
Still, we’ll have to wait and watch how this plays out, especially since the FIA will no longer have direct support from PlayStation when it comes to arranging Esports contests.
