The standout feature of this update is, without a doubt, the arrival of the official Assetto Corsa EVO SDK.
For those of us who have spent years enjoying the legacy of the original Assetto Corsa, it is impossible to ignore the role the community played in its success. Historic cars, full championships, never-before-seen circuits, and thousands of hours of fan-made content kept the simulator alive for more than a decade.
Now, Kunos Simulazioni is beginning to lay the groundwork to repeat that story. In this first phase, the tools allow the creation and import of custom vehicles for offline modes, using development processes similar to those used internally by the studio itself. Although it is not yet possible to use these custom cars in multiplayer, or to create full circuits and decorations, all signs point to this being only the first step in a far more ambitious strategy.
The community once again has a leading role in the future of the franchise.
New Cars to Expand the Garage
The update also introduces several new models that broaden the simulator’s current offering.
Among them, the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II stands out as one of the modern benchmarks in the GT3 category and a car well known to endurance racing fans.
Alongside it we find:
- Datsun 240Z (S30) in two variants.
- Porsche 935 (2019).
- Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport Evo Kit.
The selection clearly favours high-performance, sporting vehicles. Porsche enthusiasts will find an extra dose of power and challenge behind the wheel, while the classic Datsun adds a more nostalgic touch to the mix.
A Safety Rating Designed to Reward Clean Racing
Another of the most interesting changes is the introduction of EVO SR, the new safety rating system for online competitions.
What sets this approach apart from other simulators is its philosophy. Rather than only rewarding those who avoid incidents by staying away from the action, EVO SR aims to reward drivers who race wheel-to-wheel cleanly.
Drivers will earn points by staying close to other competitors without causing contact. In other words, simply driving alone will not be enough to improve your rating.
In addition, the system analyses the severity of each incident using in-game impact data:
- Minor scrapes will carry smaller penalties.
- Serious accidents will receive harsher sanctions.
- Light contact in a slipstream will not be penalised.
- Wall strikes that do not affect other drivers will fall outside the penalty system.
The idea is simple but promising: encourage on-track battles without turning every corner into a war zone.
More Smoke, More Dirt, and a Greater Sense of Speed
Visually, the update introduces a new particle system that brings much more life to the action. Tyre smoke now responds more naturally to loss of traction, while gravel, grass, and dirt generate more realistic effects when cars leave the limits of the circuit.
Races in the rain also benefit from improvements thanks to new water spray effects, and crashes gain visual drama through impact-specific particles. It may seem like a secondary detail, but it is precisely these small elements that help convey a more physical and immersive feeling while driving.
Beyond the visible new features, version 0.7 introduces a long list of optimisations and fixes.
Among the most notable:
- Improvements to overall stability.
- Fixes for various crashes and unexpected closures.
- Physics adjustments for several vehicles.
- New GPU-based texture streaming system.
- Optimisation of lighting, shadows, and reflections.
- Better compatibility with virtual reality and triple-screen setups.
- New sounds for certain models.
- Additional interface customisation options.
While these changes are less eye-catching than a new circuit or a full game mode, they contribute to building a more solid technical foundation for future development.
It may not be the most spectacular update, but it is certainly one of the most strategic.
