Assetto Corsa EVO Could Revolutionize Rally Simulators

Kunos’ decision to recreate the Eiffel region—a picturesque and diverse landscape in western Germany—is ambitious. Known for its winding roads, dense forests, and iconic locations like the Nürburgring, the region offers an ideal playground for all types of motorsport.

What sets this project apart is Kunos’ commitment to laser-scanning technology, which ensures that every corner, elevation change, and surface detail is meticulously captured.

One of the most notable omissions in the demo:

THERE WAS NO SIGN OF OFF-ROAD OR DIRT TRACK RACING—A FEATURE THAT HAS GAINED POPULARITY IN ASSETTO CORSA USING MODS.

For rally fans, the sheer size of the map unlocks incredible possibilities. Imagine having access to hundreds of kilometers of roads, ranging from smooth tarmac to rugged gravel paths. The inclusion of single-lane backroads and potential off-road sections adds to the authenticity, making it a perfect setting for rally stages.

According to Marco Massarutto, Kunos Simulazioni’s managing director,

“YOU WILL NOT BE RESPAWNED ON THE ROAD IF YOU GO OFF THE ROAD. THE ENTIRE AREA IS DRIVABLE.”

Kunos has hinted at including challenges for players in the open world. Point-to-point time trials, inspired by real-life rally stages, seem like a natural fit. The thrill of navigating tight corners and unpredictable terrain, combined with the clock ticking down, could provide one of the most immersive rally experiences ever seen in a racing simulator.

Beyond Expectations

Imagine being able to select a series of roads—or even off-road paths—to craft your own unique rally stages. This feature would allow the community to tailor stages to their preferences, whether they favor high-speed straights or technical hairpins.

Tools for stage creation could include:

  • Selecting start and finish points.
  • Defining route markers and checkpoints.
  • Adding rally-specific assets like start/finish boards, time control points, and spectator zones.

The creativity of Assetto Corsa’s modding community has already been proven, and with the right tools, they could produce a library of rally stages that rivals or surpasses those found in dedicated rally games.

A Revolutionary Concept

In real-world rallies, these are the transit stages between competitive stages where drivers navigate public roads under time constraints. Incorporating this into Assetto Corsa Evo would bridge the gap between open-world exploration and traditional stage-based rallying.

Imagine finishing a high-intensity rally stage and transitioning to a liaison section where you must:

  • Navigate traffic.
  • Manage a countdown timer to avoid penalties for early or late arrival.
  • Plan quick adjustments to your car, such as changing tires or tweaking suspension settings.

The future of rally in Assetto Corsa Evo is bright, and we’re just getting started.

If you share this excitement, let’s make our voices heard.
