Assetto Corsa EVO’s long-awaited Eifel Free Roam will officially make its playable debut with Update 0.10. KUNOS Simulazioni confirmed on September 23 that the “first iteration” of the open-road mode will be included in the next major Early Access update, finally attaching a specific version number to one of EVO’s most anticipated features. What remains unknown is when Update 0.10 will be released and exactly how much of the Eifel region will be available in its first public version.
The announcement is short but significant. KUNOS states:
From the Nordschleife to the open road! The first iteration of the Eifel Free Roam Mode will be released to Assetto Corsa EVO as part of Update 0.10. More details coming soon.
Until now, KUNOS had only confirmed that Free Roam would arrive before Assetto Corsa EVO left Early Access.
Following Update 0.9 in August, the studio said it was getting “very close” to releasing the feature but stopped short of identifying the update that would contain it.
That has now changed: Free Roam is officially part of Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.10.
Update 0.10 Will Introduce the First Part of Eifel Free Roam
The wording “first iteration” is important.
KUNOS has never planned to release the entire Eifel environment in one update. The studio originally announced that the map would expand progressively, eventually recreating an area of approximately 1,600 square kilometers surrounding the Nürburgring.
The environment is being produced using LiDAR data and KUNOS’ own terrain technology, with the objective of reproducing real public roads rather than designing a fictional open-world map around conventional videogame proportions. KUNOS co-founder Marco Massarutto previously confirmed that the studio intended to release the first section as soon as possible and then progressively expand both the map and its activities.
That means players should not expect Update 0.10 to suddenly unlock the entire planned 1,600 km² region.
What KUNOS has not yet revealed is:
- The size of the initial playable area.
- Which roads will be accessible in Update 0.10.
- How the connection between the Nürburgring and public roads will work.
- Which interactive locations will be available initially.
- Free Roam multiplayer details.
- The maximum number of players.
- The exact AI traffic configuration.
- The release date for Update 0.10.
More information has been promised ahead of release.
What Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam Is Supposed to Become
Free Roam is considerably more ambitious than simply removing the barriers around the Nürburgring.
KUNOS is recreating the real Eifel region surrounding the Nordschleife, combining Assetto Corsa EVO’s simulation physics with public roads, traffic and an environment designed around exploration rather than traditional circuit racing.
Earlier demonstrations and statements have confirmed plans for AI traffic, navigation and points of interest.
The longer-term vision has also included interactive real-world locations such as:
- Gas stations.
- Car dealerships.
- Car rental businesses.
- Hotels.
- Restaurants and other local companies.
KUNOS originally planned additional economy and progression systems around many of these locations. Those plans changed significantly when the studio abandoned EVO’s original Career Mode and virtual economy earlier in 2026.
That decision did not cancel Free Roam.
Massarutto subsequently explained that removing the economy system actually gave the team more flexibility to finish the open-road environment without forcing every activity through a virtual currency or progression structure.
Players will therefore be able to explore the region using Assetto Corsa EVO’s existing focus on simulation and driving without the originally planned requirement to grind through an economy before accessing content.
Exactly which interactive systems survive into the first 0.10 implementation remains to be confirmed.
Traffic Is Still Part of the Plan
One of the biggest differences between Free Roam and simply driving a large circuit will be traffic.
KUNOS’ January 2026 Free Roam teaser showed multiple AI-controlled vehicles travelling through the Eifel road network, including ordinary road traffic on larger routes.

The latest images accompanying the Update 0.10 announcement again show non-player road vehicles, including larger traffic such as a motorhome, construction vehicle and agricultural machinery.
That reinforces KUNOS’ stated intention to make the environment feel like a functioning region rather than an empty road network.
However, KUNOS has not yet detailed how traffic density, behavior or customization will work in Update 0.10 specifically.

Update 0.10 Still Has No Release Date

This is the biggest detail still missing.
KUNOS has not announced a release date for Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.10.
The current confirmation only connects Eifel Free Roam with the update and says that additional information is coming soon.
That distinction matters because Free Roam has already moved through several development targets.
The environment was originally announced in December 2024 with a Summer 2025 target. That window passed, and during SimRacing Expo 2025 Massarutto subsequently targeted the first section for early 2026.
That window also passed without a public release.
More recently, when Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.9 launched on August 26, KUNOS explicitly confirmed that 0.9 would not be the final Early Access build and said Free Roam was getting very close.
At that point, however, Update 0.10 remained speculation.
The September 23 announcement finally removes that uncertainty.
Free Roam Finally Has a Confirmed Update
Free Roam has been one of the defining promises of Assetto Corsa EVO since before Early Access launched.
Instead of replacing traditional circuit simulation, KUNOS wants to apply the same vehicle physics to real public roads around one of motorsport’s most famous locations.
The project has taken substantially longer than originally planned, and Update 0.10 will still represent only its first public iteration.
But there is now an important difference compared with every previous roadmap update: players finally know which Assetto Corsa EVO build will introduce it.
Update 0.10 will mark the transition from the Nürburgring being a closed racing environment to the beginning of the wider Eifel road network. The remaining questions are how large that first section will be, what players will actually be able to do inside it and, most importantly, when KUNOS intends to release the update.
More details are now officially on the way.
If you do not own the game yet, Assetto Corsa EVO is available on PC, and the original Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition remains the reference point for what a mature modding scene looks like.
