Assetto Corsa EVO: The Last Hope

In the world of competitive simracing, iRacing has been the undisputed leader for over a decade. Its blend of realistic physics, a solid infrastructure, and a dedicated user base made it the go-to platform for serious racers.

However, the decline in race quality and a lack of innovation has left many players frustrated and searching for alternatives. This is where a small glimmer of hope appears: Assetto Corsa EVO.

The Legacy of Assetto Corsa

The original Assetto Corsa was a groundbreaking title in simracing, offering incredibly realistic vehicle physics, a flexible modding environment, and a wealth of user-generated content. While iRacing focused on structured competition, Kunos Simulazioni, the developers of Assetto Corsa, focused on a highly customizable experience that appealed to the most technical and demanding players.

However, there was a significant gap: Assetto Corsa never established itself as a major force in competitive online simracing. Its focus was always on simulation realism rather than an organized, competitive racing experience. Assetto Corsa Competizione tried to fill that gap in the GT racing space but failed to become a serious contender against iRacing.

What Assetto Corsa EVO Could Offer

The potential of Assetto Corsa EVO lies in the lessons that Kunos may have learned from its past releases. Players are hoping for significant improvements in physics—already one of their strong points—and the introduction of a much-needed competitive structure to rival iRacing.

One of the key reasons iRacing has remained on top is its solid structure: you can race at almost any time of day, find opponents of your skill level, and participate in well-balanced competitions. If Assetto Corsa EVO can blend its outstanding simulation with a reliable online infrastructure, it could become a serious threat to iRacing.

Massarutto, co-founder of Kunos, confirmed this open approach:

“We are taking advantage of SimGrid’s expertise, but we want to keep the ecosystem open for activities like leagues.”

The SimGrid partnership with Kunos ensures a bright future for Assetto Corsa EVO’s multiplayer, bringing stability, competition, and community-driven flexibility to the forefront.

If Kunos can integrate this aspect into its new platform, while enhancing the competitive experience, it could attract both hardcore simulation enthusiasts and those looking for well-organized competitions.

The hope is small, but it exists. In a market where Rennsport has yet to prove itself, Gran Turismo has stagnated, and Forza Motorsport is not prepared to compete in serious simracing, Assetto Corsa EVO seems like the only viable alternative that could push iRacing to react.

  1. If asetto corsa can do 3 things I would be very happy.
    1. Online competition and license classes and safety rating like iRacing
    2. Dial in their already good physics, but just dial it in. Iracing charges monthly subscriptions plus buying content, that cost goes to disassembling cars and using racing teams to develope cars.
    3. Make regular roads that exist, such as in Richard Burns Rally.

  2. I don’t know about all that. For the past 7 months, I’ve only been able to compete in 2 races in the series I want to race in. There is rarely anyone on some or those series. The graphics are definitely lacking on Iracing. And of course the outrageous expense to own everything. Actually thinking about just selling my login information at this point. All content included, just gotta renew the subscription in 2 and a half years to keep it going if you want

  3. I seriously dont know why rF2 does not have more racers on. FFB as a branch top shelf standard, content free and brilliant dlc, VR that also looks great, triple screen etc etc.
