Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.8.1 Released with AI, Multiplayer, and Stability Improvements

Assetto Corsa EVO KTM X BOW GT2 4

Assetto Corsa EVO continues to refine its driving experience with the release of Update 0.8.1, a patch focused on improving the simulator’s overall stability, enhancing artificial intelligence behavior, and strengthening the multiplayer infrastructure. While this update doesn’t introduce new cars or tracks, it resolves a long list of community-reported issues and delivers important refinements for both players and server administrators.

With this latest release, KUNOS Simulazioni continues to prioritize the simulator’s reliability ahead of future content updates, providing a more polished experience across single-player racing, online competition, and modding.

AI and Stability Receive Major Improvements

One of the most significant changes in Update 0.8.1 focuses on AI behavior during pit stops. The developers have corrected the system responsible for creating and assigning pit lane positions for AI-controlled cars, eliminating issues that could occur, particularly during endurance races.

Another fix addresses a bug affecting players who use the Start Assist feature. Under certain conditions, both the car and dashboard could become unresponsive during the race start countdown, preventing drivers from controlling the vehicle when the lights went out. This issue has now been resolved.

On the stability side, the update eliminates several critical problems, including:

  • Fixed a crash related to dynamic track recording when restarting a session.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur after repeatedly refreshing the multiplayer server browser.
  • The ideal racing line assistant now initializes asynchronously, reducing freezes some players experienced during loading.

Visual Enhancements and Garage Optimization

Alongside the technical fixes, the patch also includes several graphical improvements that enhance the game’s overall presentation.

Among the visual updates is a further reduction in tree pop-in, making distant vegetation appear more naturally on certain graphics configurations. Additionally, Kyalami has received a specific fix for the palm tree subsurface texture, correcting a minor visual issue.

The thumbnail generation system has also been improved. The update fixes situations where preview images failed to generate correctly, as well as an issue that occurred when creating thumbnails while using the free camera.

Garage management has also been optimized. The developers fixed an issue that caused garage cars to be saved repeatedly due to unnecessary performance index recalculations. As a result, vehicle management is now more efficient, reducing unnecessary save operations.

Multiplayer and Dedicated Servers Are More Reliable

Online racing also benefits from a series of backend improvements designed to increase server stability.

One of the fixes addresses a problem affecting servers that had accumulated more than 1,000 lifetime users. In those cases, new entry numbers could incorrectly begin around 600 instead of continuing sequentially, resulting in inaccurate server data. Update 0.8.1 resolves this issue.

Communication between dedicated servers, the backend, and connected clients has also been redesigned to provide much clearer information when players attempt to join a server without having the required cars installed. In addition, the performance validation system has been improved to prevent incorrect early connection rejections.

Windows dedicated servers now also include a dedicated documents folder, making server administration easier and more organized.

Assetto Corsa EVO Expands Modding Support

Update 0.8.1 also introduces several improvements for players who create and manage custom content.

Cars can now be loaded directly from the Saved Games/ACE-Server folder, simplifying content management for dedicated servers. External liveries for garage sharing have also been improved, while a new Livery Linker has been added to the car customization menu, making it easier to organize and use custom paint schemes.

These improvements provide a more flexible environment for the modding community, which has long been one of the defining strengths of the Assetto Corsa franchise.
