Assetto Corsa EVO Walk Mode: What Can You Actually Do on Foot?

Assetto Corsa EVO Walk Mode

Assetto Corsa EVO’s upcoming Free Roam will let players leave their cars and explore the Eifel region on foot, adding a first-person Walk Mode to KUNOS Simulazioni’s driving simulator. The recent Free Roam showcase confirmed pedestrians, animals and detailed points of interest around the Nürburgring, but KUNOS has yet to explain how deeply players will be able to interact with the world while outside their cars.

Walk Mode was one of the more unexpected features shown during KUNOS’ October Free Roam presentation. Brief footage demonstrated the player moving through the environment on foot rather than remaining permanently inside a vehicle, opening up a different way to explore the 1:1 recreation of the Nürburgring area.

The initial Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam will include the Nordschleife, surrounding villages and the public roads connecting them. KUNOS says those areas contain real landmarks and points of interest recreated from the Eifel region, making the ability to leave the car potentially more useful than a simple camera mode.

What Assetto Corsa EVO Walk Mode Has Confirmed

The clearest confirmed feature is simply the ability to get out of the car and walk through the environment. The showcase presented this from a first-person perspective and also showed populated areas containing NPC pedestrians rather than completely empty villages.

Animals are part of the environment too. Wildlife and smaller ambient creatures were visible during the presentation, contributing to KUNOS’ attempt to make the region feel like a living location rather than a traditional circuit surrounded by inaccessible scenery.

Free Roam itself also contains numerous destinations that could give players reasons to stop and explore. The presentation showed navigation features and points of interest, while locations associated with fuel, tyre services and car washing were also demonstrated.

KUNOS has confirmed that players will be free to explore the region rather than follow a compulsory progression structure. Free Roam will support both single-player and multiplayer from its first iteration, alongside variable AI traffic, dynamic weather, a full day/night cycle and optional activities such as Time Attack events.

What KUNOS Still Has Not Confirmed

The biggest unanswered question is how interactive Walk Mode will actually be. The showcase confirmed first-person exploration, but KUNOS has not yet shown or formally confirmed many of the features players may naturally expect from an open-world mode.

  • Entering hotels, restaurants, shops or workshops freely.
  • Talking to or directly interacting with NPCs.
  • Walking inside buildings.
  • Entering and exiting the car through a complete animation.
  • Opening doors, the boot or the bonnet while walking around the vehicle.
  • Meeting other players on foot during multiplayer Free Roam sessions.
  • Using gestures or emotes, or customizing a player avatar.
  • Manually refuelling, changing tyres or washing the car in first person.
  • Using Walk Mode in VR.

Some of these possibilities are particularly interesting because 505 Games previously discussed interaction with local businesses, car rentals and aftermarket services as part of the wider open-world concept. However, KUNOS has not confirmed that those activities will require players to physically enter locations or interact with characters while on foot.

The same caution applies to multiplayer. Free Roam multiplayer and Walk Mode have both been confirmed, but that does not yet mean players will necessarily be able to leave their cars and walk around together in the same session.

More answers should arrive soon. Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam will be publicly playable at SimRacing Expo Frankfurt from October 16-18, 2026, providing the first opportunity to test the feature outside KUNOS. Marco Massarutto will also present Free Roam on the main stage on October 16, potentially revealing more about how Walk Mode works before its release with Update 0.10.

For now, what is certain is that Assetto Corsa EVO will no longer restrict players to the driver’s seat. How close that first-person exploration eventually comes to a fully interactive open world remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding Free Roam.

If you do not own the game yet, Assetto Corsa EVO is available on PC, and the original Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition remains the reference point for what a mature modding scene looks like.

See you on the track!
