Supernova Games Studios is taking a long-term approach to community features for Assetto Corsa Rally — one that prioritizes custom infrastructure over quick fixes.
A feature built for longevity, not for today
The single most important feature for Assetto Corsa Rally’s long-term survival isn’t a new car or a new track. It’s community clubs running asynchronously, and Supernova Games Studios has confirmed they’re working on their own online infrastructure to support exactly that.
The announcement came during the third community Q&A, held on the official Discord server and streamed by Canard on July 16, 2026. The question came from a player named Gribo62, who pointed out the obvious limitation of synchronous lobbies: someone hosting a club rally at midnight in the UK can only race with others in or near their timezone. A club set up to run over a week, anyone anywhere could participate regardless of location.
Why this matters
Rally is inherently an asynchronous sport in many formats. Real-world rally championships run over multiple days with staggered starts, time-based scoring, and no requirement for competitors to share the road at the same moment. Synchronous lobby racing, while fun for casual sessions, doesn’t capture that structure. A proper club system that lets players organize their own events and compete across timezones is what turns Assetto Corsa Rally from a game into a persistent community.
Supernova’s response was direct: they’re building their own online infrastructure from the ground up, specifically to keep this option on the table. They didn’t want to cut it out by relying on third-party solutions. That’s a significant decision architecturally — building matchmaking, lobby management, and async scheduling systems is not trivial work, and it requires server investment and ongoing maintenance.
The gap between confirmation and availability
Here’s where the skepticism creeps in. Confirming a feature exists on the roadmap and actually delivering it are two different things. The Q&A was explicit about this: Zonca said he couldn’t say when clubs would be ready. That’s an honest answer, but it’s also an admission that the timeline is unknown.
The infrastructure being built “from the initial game design phases” suggests it was designed into the system early, which is better than retrofitting. But early design doesn’t guarantee timely delivery. The priority queue for Assetto Corsa Rally right now is clearly: car roster, physics tuning, and core content. Clubs, as essential as they are, will likely sit behind those in the delivery order.
The bigger picture
This is still early innings for Supernova. They’ve got a functioning physics model, a growing car list, and a community that’s engaged enough to submit questions through Discord and attend Q&As. The club system, whenever it arrives, could be the feature that locks in a dedicated player base rather than letting them drift back to more established rally sims after the novelty wears off.
The confirmation is real. The execution is what matters.
