Assetto Corsa Rally VR: The magic will arrive… just not today

So anyone would think that in Assetto Corsa Rally, on the day of its early access release this November 13th, virtual reality would be waiting at the door with its headset on, ready to jump into the track.

But no. That day, VR is going to show up late. Much later than you and me.

Rally jumped into the adventure with a fully customized Unreal Engine 5, like a car that came out of a workshop where no one is sure if they’re building a masterpiece or if there were just leftover parts.

An honest decision: better late than dizzy

The game director explained it with a sincerity that’s refreshing: they weren’t satisfied with the current state of VR. And honestly, I appreciate it. Because the last thing we want is to put on a headset just to end up seeing the rally in different dimensions… and none of them the correct one.

Besides, they admit something nice: VR matters to them too, not just to us. And that shows. They talk about immersion, about how they want to perfect it, about how the experience should be something more than simply turning your head like a surprised owl.

The magic will arrive… just not today

And here comes the part everyone wanted to hear: VR will indeed arrive. Not at launch, but during the early access phase. When they’re convinced the experience not only works, but feels right.

The message, essentially, is this:

“We don’t want to release it broken. We want to release it worthy.”

And you know what? In a world where many games release with more patches than a rally car after a crash, that’s something to appreciate.
