Let’s start with what is fair. The snow works.
And not in a “pretty visual effect” kind of way, but in a physical sense. The car floats, slides, loses reference. There is no magical grip. No lies. Just uncertainty.
You turn the wheel and the car responds half a second later, as if saying: “Relax, I’m thinking about it.”
This part is genuinely well done.
The problem is not how the snow feels. The problem is where the snow is. The studded tires are, without exaggeration, the best part of the update. They completely change how the car behaves. They do not make you invincible, but they give you something important.
Hope.
The kind of hope that says: “Okay, I can enter sideways… and maybe I’ll survive the exit.”
- RWD feels wild, nervous, fun, and dangerous.
- AWD becomes logical, aggressive, and suddenly very rally-like.
This is where the game shines. This is where you smile. This is where you think:
Yes. This is it.
And just as you start enjoying it… the track ends. Literally.
Force Feedback: Better, but Confusing
The force feedback has improved. That is true.
But it also reset everything. Suddenly the wheel feels strange. Almost offended. Like it no longer recognizes your hands. As if it’s asking: “Who are you and what did you do to my settings?”
There is more weight. More information. More reaction. But also more confusion during that first contact. Technical improvement. Yes. Inconsistent first impression. Also yes.
Nothing unfixable. But in simulation, strange is noticeable.
This Is Not a Rally
This is where things get quiet. The snow is there. The physics are there. The cars are there. But the rally is not. No long stage. No sense of journey. No “you start here and finish somewhere else.”
What you get is a circuit. With sectors. With laps. And no matter how much snow you add, a circuit is still a circuit.
This does not break the game. But it does break the promise many of us thought we heard.
This update is not bad. In many ways, it is very good. Yes, it is free. Yes, it is appreciated. Yes, there is talent and effort behind it. But it is also fair to say:
This is not what it looked like.
And sometimes, the most frustrating thing of all is seeing the potential sitting right there.
Now it just needs the snow where it actually belongs.
