Not long ago, I came across a stat that made me both smile and reflect: Assetto Corsa—yes, the original 2014 version—still averages around 10,000 concurrent players.
Over a decade after its release, it remains the sim racing title leading the pack. What’s even more striking is that when you add up the concurrent players of Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa EVO, Le Mans Ultimate, RaceRoom, Automobilista 2, and Rennsport, you barely get a little over 5,000. Combined.
There’s something truly special about Assetto Corsa. It’s not just nostalgia. It’s not the most modern-looking sim, nor does it have the flashiest interface. But where it shines, it shines brightly: the driving feel, the community, and its unmatched moddability.
Personally, I’ve lost count of the hours spent tweaking setups, installing community-made tracks, and discovering cars that you’d never see in any other sim. From 60s classics to futuristic prototypes. From Nürburgring to tiny fictional street circuits crafted by passionate fans. Assetto Corsa isn’t just a game—it’s a toolbox, a community, a legacy.
Meanwhile, the new generation of sims is chasing that throne AC never really gave up. Some offer fantastic physics, others boast official licenses or cutting-edge visuals. But most of them, in practice, fail to hook people the way this old lion still does. Maybe it’s because they’re too closed-off, too controlled, or simply lack the creative freedom Assetto Corsa gives so generously.
Sure, Assetto Corsa isn’t perfect. But it’s also vividly alive. And it proves it every single day, with thousands of people putting on their virtual helmets to race through Spa, Mugello, or a little Italian street circuit that exists only because a dedicated modder made it so.
So if you’ve never tried it—or left it behind for something more “modern”—consider this your friendly reminder: Assetto Corsa is still here, and it’s not going anywhere.

Totally agree, we just wanted to make a note that after the release of AC EVO the users have not decreased. iRacing plays in another league.
