Automobilista 2 Update Adds Historic Formula 1 Tracks

Although it was originally planned as a relatively minor update under version 1.6.9.8, various licensing-related issues have delayed its release. However, rather than slowing down the studio’s workflow, the additional development time has allowed the team to significantly expand the amount of content and improvements coming to the game.

According to the developers, this has been one of the most productive development periods in recent months, resulting in far more additions than would normally be expected from an update with such a modest version number. Furthermore, the team claims that the following update is already progressing according to schedule, creating the possibility that Automobilista 2 could receive two major updates before the end of June.

The Historic Track Pack Continues to Grow

One of the highlights of this upcoming release will be the fourth installment of the Historic Track Pack, an expansion focused on recreating some of the most iconic Formula 1 venues from the sport’s golden era in the early 2000s.

Reiza emphasizes that recreating a historical period involves much more than simply adding classic cars. Sounds, atmosphere, trackside signage, specific circuit configurations, and numerous visual details all play a crucial role in transporting players back to a particular era of motorsport.

With that philosophy in mind, the studio has developed new historical versions of several iconic tracks that will allow players to relive some of the most memorable seasons of modern Formula 1.

Five Historic Circuits Coming in Version 1.6.9.8

The new expansion will feature a total of five historic circuit layouts, all set between the late 1990s and the mid-2000s:

• Barcelona 1999
• Barcelona 2001
• Imola 2005
• Indianapolis 2001 (Road Course and Speedway)
• Spielberg 2001

These circuits aim to faithfully recreate not only the track layouts themselves but also the visual elements and sponsorship branding that defined the era, delivering a more authentic experience for players who enjoy recreating historical championships or racing motorsport legends on classic venues.

The addition of Indianapolis 2001 is particularly noteworthy, as it will allow players to compete on both the Road Course and Speedway configurations, two layouts that played an important role across multiple categories of international motorsport.

Monza 2005 Will Also Be Available Under Certain Conditions

Alongside the circuits listed above, Reiza confirmed that Monza 2005 will also be included in the 1.6.9.8 update. However, due to licensing requirements, this track will not be included directly within the Historic Track Pack.

Instead, the historic version of Monza will be available to players who already own the Premium Track Pack or any package that includes the Monza DLC. This means that many existing users will gain access to the circuit without needing to purchase any additional content.
