BeamNG.drive PS5 Confirms Up to Four-Player Offline Multiplayer

BeamNG.drive PS5 Confirms Up to Four Player Offline Multiplayer

BeamNG.drive will support offline multiplayer for up to four players when it arrives on PlayStation 5 on October 19, 2026. The official PlayStation Store listing now identifies the PS5 version as supporting “1–4 players” with offline play enabled, adding another notable feature to BeamNG’s long-awaited console debut.

The listing provides the clearest official confirmation so far that multiple players will be able to play BeamNG.drive locally on a single PS5. However, PlayStation does not specifically describe the feature as split-screen, so exactly how the four-player experience will be presented has not yet been detailed by BeamNG.

That distinction is important because BeamNG’s existing PC documentation still describes offline multiplayer through its Multiseat system, while an older FAQ states that traditional split-screen was not planned at the time it was written. The new PS5 listing therefore confirms four-player offline support, but not necessarily the exact screen layout or modes that will be available at launch.

BeamNG.drive PS5 supports up to four local players

The official PlayStation Store page lists BeamNG.drive as supporting between one and four players and explicitly states that offline play is enabled. The PS5 version will also support DualSense vibration and trigger effects.

For a game built around vehicle physics, crashes, challenges and open-world experimentation, local multiplayer could become one of the more unusual additions to the console version. BeamNG.drive already allows players to create scenarios ranging from conventional racing and time trials to police pursuits, off-road driving, vehicle destruction and sandbox experiments.

The exact activities available to multiple local players have not yet been detailed officially. BeamNG has also not published a complete breakdown explaining whether four players will always have independent camera views, share particular modes or use a dedicated console version of its existing Multiseat system.

Is BeamNG.drive getting four-player split-screen?

At present, the safest answer is that four-player offline multiplayer is officially confirmed for PS5, while four-way split-screen has not yet been explicitly confirmed in BeamNG’s own written announcement.

This creates an interesting discrepancy with BeamNG’s existing FAQ. The developer’s website currently states that offline multiplayer on PC is available through Multiseat, but also says that split-screen itself was not planned at the time that FAQ entry was written.

The PlayStation Store information is much newer and specifically relates to the upcoming PS5 release, so its “1–4 players” classification is significant. It may indicate a new implementation created for consoles, but until BeamNG explains the feature in more detail, calling it four-player offline or local multiplayer is more accurate than assuming a specific split-screen format.

BeamNG.drive launches on PS5 October 19

BeamNG officially confirmed in September that BeamNG.drive will launch on PlayStation 5 on October 19, 2026. The release represents the first console version of the physics-driven vehicle sandbox after more than a decade on PC.

BeamNG says the console version has required extensive optimization across performance, controls, interface and usability while attempting to preserve the simulation underneath. Its soft-body physics engine models individual vehicle structures as networks of nodes and beams that can bend, deform and break dynamically instead of relying on predetermined damage animations.

The PS5 version will offer a large selection of vehicles and around a dozen open-world environments, alongside Freeroam, races, time trials, police pursuits and other missions. PlayStation has also confirmed support for DualSense vibration and adaptive trigger effects.

No mods or PS VR2 support at launch

There are also some important limitations for the initial PS5 release. BeamNG has officially confirmed that mods will not be supported at launch, meaning PS5 players will not initially have access to the enormous collection of community vehicles, maps and modifications available on PC.

VR support will also be absent at launch, including PlayStation VR2. BeamNG says it intends to work towards feature parity between platforms where possible over the longer term, but has not committed to a date or specific scope for either feature.

PC players are also expecting a major update at approximately the same time. BeamNG has said that Version 0.40 is planned for around the PS5 release date, although it has not confirmed that every PS5-specific feature, including the four-player offline functionality, will necessarily arrive on PC in the same form.

A significant addition for the console version

Local multiplayer could give BeamNG.drive a very different appeal on PS5 compared with its traditional single-player PC experience. The game’s physics sandbox naturally lends itself to short competitive challenges, crashes and experimentation that can work particularly well when several people are playing in the same room.

What remains unclear is exactly how BeamNG will implement that functionality. Sony’s official listing establishes that up to four players are supported offline, but BeamNG has yet to explain the available multiplayer modes or formally describe the feature as four-player split-screen.

With the October 19 release now only weeks away, more information about the PS5 version and Version 0.40 is likely to arrive before launch.

More details can be found on the official BeamNG.drive PS5 announcement and the PlayStation Store listing.
