BeamNG.drive PS5 Release Date Confirmed for October 19

BeamNG.drive PS5

BeamNG.drive will launch on PlayStation 5 in Early Access on October 19, 2026, BeamNG has officially confirmed. The console debut will arrive around the same time as the upcoming BeamNG.drive v0.40 update on PC, although PS5 players will initially have to play without mod support or PlayStation VR2 compatibility.

The October release will mark the first time BeamNG.drive has officially been available on a console after more than a decade on PC. BeamNG originally announced the PlayStation 5 version in May 2026 but stopped short of providing a specific launch date at the time. That has now changed, with October 19 set as the start of the game’s Early Access period on Sony’s current-generation console.

BeamNG.drive is built around its real-time soft-body physics engine, which simulates individual vehicle components as interconnected nodes and beams. This allows vehicle structures, suspension components and bodywork to react dynamically to impacts and mechanical forces rather than relying primarily on predefined damage models. The PS5 version is intended to retain that simulation-focused approach while adapting controls, performance and the user interface for console hardware.

BeamNG.drive v0.40 Is Coming Around the PS5 Launch

The PS5 release will coincide closely with BeamNG.drive v0.40 on PC. BeamNG has not given the PC update the same firm October 19 release date, instead saying that the console version will arrive around the same time as v0.40. PC players should therefore treat October 19 as an approximate window for the update rather than a confirmed release date for v0.40 itself.

Version 0.40 is expected to introduce a brand-new vehicle alongside visual improvements and other changes. Local split-screen is also coming as part of the update, expanding the ways multiple players can use BeamNG.drive on the same system.

The console version will make use of platform-specific upscaling technology as well. BeamNG has confirmed AMD FSR 3 support for the standard PlayStation 5, while PlayStation 5 Pro will support Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, better known as PSSR.

No Mods on PS5 at Launch

One of the largest differences between the PC and PlayStation versions will initially be mod support. Mods have become a major part of the BeamNG.drive ecosystem on PC, adding community-created vehicles, maps and other content, but they will not be supported on PS5 when the game launches on October 19.

BeamNG says it generally wants to achieve feature parity between platforms where possible and is exploring what form PlayStation mod support could eventually take. However, the developer has not committed to a release window or confirmed the eventual scope of the feature. Mod creation tools such as the World Editor are also not currently planned for PlayStation.

This means PC will remain the more complete option for players heavily invested in community content, at least initially. The PS5 release is instead focused on bringing the core BeamNG.drive experience to consoles while the team continues developing and expanding the game through Early Access.

PS VR2 Will Not Be Supported at Launch

Virtual reality is another PC feature that will not carry over to PlayStation 5 at launch. BeamNG.drive currently offers experimental VR support on PC through OpenXR, but BeamNG has confirmed that PS VR2 will not be supported when the PS5 version arrives.

The developer has explained that optimization of the standard flatscreen console experience remains the priority. No timetable has been announced for PS VR2 support, so players should not assume that VR functionality will follow shortly after release. On PC, however, v0.40 is expected to include further VR fixes, optimizations and performance improvements.

BeamNG.drive Remains in Early Access

The October 19 release should also not be mistaken for BeamNG.drive reaching version 1.0. The PlayStation Store lists the PS5 edition as an Early Access title, continuing the development model BeamNG has used on PC since the game’s original Early Access release in May 2015.

Console players will have access to the game’s soft-body vehicle simulation, customizable vehicles, Free Roam, Career Mode, scenarios and 12 open-world environments while development continues. The PlayStation Store also confirms offline play for up to four players and support for DualSense vibration and trigger effects.

Pricing for the PlayStation 5 version has not yet been officially listed in all regions. For now, players can add BeamNG.drive to their PlayStation Store wishlist ahead of its October 19, 2026 Early Access launch.
