Best Racing Steering Wheels for PlayStation 5

We have the new generation consoles and fortunately this time we do so with the certainty that many of the devices on the market will work, as both Sony and Microsoft have confirmed that the wheels, rims and bases licensed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also be compatible with the next Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The latter we will talk about in the next article in which we review the current catalog evaluating prices and features. Remember that for an overview you have all available in our hardware database.

Sony luckily has a number of high quality in-house studios that have genuine titles for sale on consoles. The best known of these is Polyphony Digital, which with Kazunori Yamauchi at the helm has been developing the Gran Turismo saga for over 20 years. Details of Gran Turismo 7 so far have been provided in other posts, as although PlayStation 5 will feature other games such as Dirt 5, WRC9, F1 2021, Assetto Corsa Competizione, etc, it is always Gran Turismo that leads sales and has the most user support on the platform.

With the emergence of the latest direct drive technology-based wheels on the market, sensations have risen to several levels, so they need to be taken into consideration.

UNDER 500€

Thrustmaster T150 RS

A serious challenger of G29 arrives to put him in serious trouble once he has modernised his plastic pedals for metal ones more in line with the competition. It’s an interesting alternative to the bestseller in the entry level range, which is still Logitech’s peripheral.

You can find it for 225 euros and sometimes under 200 with very attractive offers.

Logitech G29

A steering wheel that works with gears, being one of the most reliable, modifiable and established devices of all those that make up the current catalogue. It has very simple and robust pedals that allow very interesting updates. About 2,5Nm of torque guarantee that our first experience with FFB is satisfactory.

Logitech G923 TRUEFORCE

It shares the essential features with the Logitech G29 by providing some small improvements in sound, braking (two-stage spring) and operating software. We made a review (the only real one made in Spain) to tell you our opinions. A good option when it goes on sale if it is under 280 euros.

Thrustmaster TX & T300

The Thrustmaster range offers more modern and better feeling belt bases than Logitech, and in this price range it is possibly the best choice. The problem is to combine it with sufficiently robust and modifiable pedals without going over budget. Here we have analysed almost all the Thrustmaster bases and you can see what each one gives you with just a glance at our reviews.

Fanatec CSL Elite

The entry level option of the German brand specialized in simracing peripherals. The CSL Elite range has a complete catalogue of accessories to complement this belt base which operates with a torque of over 6Nm. It has variants that allow its compatibility with current consoles, so it is an all-rounder option to be considered.

BETWEEN 500 AND 1000€

There is actually no base as such for PlayStation in this range, but there is the cost of accessories for rings and steering wheels that can make any lower starting pack cost between 600 and 900 euros. It’s also worth noting that buying good pedals can be a great addition to the bases. We recommend that you take a look at our pedal guide.

Fanatec DD1 F1 PS4

Since 2014, when technology was introduced in DIY developments, it has been spreading until finally one of the big brands has decided to try a commercial product for the general public.

After its recent price increase it is no longer as enormously attractive as it was a few months ago, but it is clear that being the first DD commercial wheel base in European territory under a prestigious brand name counts in its favour. After an arduous path of development, and with a supposedly bombproof reliability, Fanatec provides a powerful engine capable of developing 20Nm and that promises to be compatible with its entire ecosystem of devices and much of the current console catalogue. We look forward to reviewing or analyzing it at some point in the future.

As you can see, there’s enough variety to choose a companion that has both PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and finally the jump to PC.

See you on the track!
