Several years have passed since Gran Turismo 7 was released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. As a flagship title, it holds significant meaning for Sony platform players. A new Gran Turismo release is an opportunity for PlayStation to boost console and peripheral sales with a legendary game. Alongside Gran Turismo 7 , other titles like Assetto Corsa Competizione have encouraged many to consider purchasing a racing wheel. The appearance of PlayStation 5 Pro and PSVR2 have elevated these games to new heights.
In the following article, we review the current catalog, evaluating prices and features. Remember that for a comprehensive overview, you have all available options in our hardware database.
With the arrival of the latest wheels using Direct Drive technology, sensations have risen several levels, offering a lot to choose from. From licensed wheels to those that work with PS4 and are therefore compatible with PS5 and PlayStation 5 Pro .
Under 300 euros
What were expensive PC and console peripherals just a decade ago are now relegated to entry-level wheels. They offer a complete set of wheel and pedals that allow us to start driving right out of the box with no worries.
Hori Apex
We start with a device licensed for Gran Turismo 7 that we, personally, are not very convinced by. This Hori Apex set has very limited features, with rather low-quality materials and finishes. We’re talking about only 270 degrees of rotation and very basic plastic pedals. The price is also not particularly attractive, except for the licensing factor. There are better options available.
It can be purchased on Amazon for 99 euros.
Thrustmaster T128
Thrustmaster has options for all budgets in the entry-level range, and this is one of their new models, aimed at raising the quality standards of entry-level bases.
With a 250mm wheel, FFB, magnetic pedals and paddles, a wheel with 13 buttons, and compatibility with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X , it stands out as an option worth considering.
Its price is 129 euros, and it can be purchased here.
Thrustmaster T150 RS
The rival of the G29 from the Franco-American company arrived to pose a serious challenge. It is an interesting alternative to the entry-level bestseller, which remains Logitech’s peripheral of choice. Note: It is currently only available with plastic pedals.
You can find it for 169.99 euros on Amazon.
Logitech G29
The second-to-last iteration of Logitech‘s flagship product. A gear-driven wheel that remains one of the most reliable, modifiable, and established devices in the current catalog. It features robust, simple pedals that allow for interesting upgrades. Approximately 2.5Nm of torque ensures a satisfying first FFB experience. Licensed for PS4 and therefore compatible with PlayStation 5 at a much lower price than the new G923.
It can be purchased on Amazon for 209 euros.
Thrustmaster T248
One of Thrustmaster’s new releases since 2021, this hybrid base comes with upgraded T3PM pedals and a moderate price to compete in the entry-level range. Compatible with all platforms, decent pedals, and an affordable price make this a strong contender.
You can buy it on Amazon for 229 euros. Perhaps the most balanced in this category.
Between 300 and 700 euros
Logitech G923
The latest twist on what was a groundbreaking device in its day, but which is starting to show its age. It shares essential features with the Logitech G29, offering small improvements in sound, braking (two-stage spring), and operating software. We did a review to share our opinions. A good option when found for sale for under 300 euros. Licensed for PlayStation 5.
You can buy it on Amazon for 329 euros, a price well above its value.
T300
The Thrustmaster range offers more modern belt-drive bases with better feel than Logitech, and one of its bestsellers was this T300 for PlayStation 4. The problem is pairing it with pedals that are sturdy enough (like the T-LCM) and customizable without exceeding the budget. We have analyzed almost all of Thrustmaster’s bases, and you can learn what each one offers just by taking a look at our reviews.
You can buy it on Amazon for 344 euros. Expensive for its age and the pedals.
Thrustmaster T598
Thrustmaster proposes a new approach that manages to reduce costs for mid-range Direct Drive bases. The T598 is an “Axial” Direct Drive model that comes as a complete pack for less than 500 euros. It is compatible with PlayStation 5 and offers a 5Nm base with much higher peaks. We will keep you updated in the coming days.
It will be available at the end of November. You can buy it on the Thrustmaster page on Amazon by clicking here.
GT DD PRO
This was the first Direct Drive base available at such a low price range. The RRP of the pack for PlayStation 5 started at 699 euros with 5Nm and two pedals. It has been available since the end of 2021. There is the option to upgrade it to 8Nm and add a third pedal. Remember, we have already analyzed the GT DD PRO and shared our thoughts on its 8Nm version.
You can buy only the base from Fanatec’s store by clicking here.
From 700 to 1000 euros
This is a range in which many new products are still coming.
Thrustmaster T-GT II
Recently introduced by Thrustmaster, it is the brand’s latest and most expensive set. It is aimed at console players and is the official product of the Gran Turismo saga, with the seventh installment as its main target. It is an updated version of the first model that we got to know 5 years ago, and as such, it does not appear to offer any external improvements. It is sold for 750 euros as a complete package and is compatible with both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, like its predecessor.
You can buy it on Amazon for 668.90 euros. It seems like an out-of-market option given the current competition. There is the possibility of purchasing the base with a wheel or only the base at a reduced price.
Fanatec Clubsport DD+
Recently introduced by Fanatec, it is an evolution of the CSL bases with all the latest updates from recent years. It is aimed at console players with several improvements over the CS DD model, such as 15 Nm instead of 12 Nm. It is sold for 999 euros without a wheel, and the packs start at around 1300 euros. It is 100% compatible with PlayStation 5.
You can buy it for 999.90 euros at the official Fanatec store.
From 1000 to 1300 euros
The major commercial brands have entered this range with their Direct Drive proposals, compatible with Playstation 5 , and of these, Logitech is perhaps the most anticipated.
We have been lucky enough to test the Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel , and it is an excellent product. The only downside might be that, for now, it is only sold through the brand’s official store. This leaves us craving for offers and price reductions that we might enjoy through other distributors. You can read one of our analysis by clicking here.
Logitech has also released an adapter to allow its old bases to be mixed with the new one, as well as with the pedals. We are eager to see how its ecosystem grows in the coming months.
As you can see, there is enough variety to be able to choose equipment that has a lifespan both on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, as well as if you finally decide to switch to PC.
