Between Curves and Costs: SimRacing GPUs in April 2025

The current trend shows modest improvement over March, with certain cards dropping between $20 and $100. Still, most models remain well above MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price). For instance, the RTX 4060 8GB, with an MSRP of $300, is currently selling for around $343—a small improvement over last month, but still a 14% markup. The 4060 Ti, both the 8GB and 16GB versions, also saw a slight drop but continue to hover well above $500 in most listings.

One of the biggest issues isn’t just the price, but the lack of stock on key models. Many RTX 40-series cards are disappearing—not because they’re selling out fast, but because production has stopped in favor of the 50-series. This has kept leftover stock prices artificially high.

When it comes to the new RTX 50-series, availability is more stable. The RTX 5070 12GB, for example, is selling for around $600, and it’s arguably the most reasonably priced performance card right now. The 5060 Ti 16GB is also appearing more frequently, though it’s already showing a $70–$80 markup over its $430 MSRP—just a week after release.

On AMD’s side, the situation is even more frustrating. Cards like the RX 9700 and 9700 XT, which should be competing on price, are still scarce and overpriced. In many cases, these markups are coming straight from major retailers—which is even more concerning.

A key observation: the steepest markups are on high-end GPUs, like the RTX 4080 Super or 5090. Some models are priced at nearly three times their base MSRP. The 5090, in particular, is in high demand due to its AI capabilities, with Founders Edition cards selling for over $5,000.

So, is it worth buying right now? If you really need a new GPU—say your current one failed, or you need upgraded graphics for work or studies—the most “reasonable” options are the RTX 5070 12GB or the 5060 Ti 16GB. They’re closer to MSRP and fairly available. But if you can wait, even just a couple of months, that’s probably the smarter move.

This month’s story isn’t about great deals—it’s about early signs of stabilization. There’s more inventory, prices are very slowly trending downward, and market pressure may eventually shift things in our favor. For now, I’ve chosen not to buy. But I’ll keep watching, because when the right price shows up—I want to be ready.

Here is our selection of GPU’s for this month.

Happy Racing!
