CONSPIT has adapted its 290 GP sim racing steering wheel for the NXT MK1 EVO, a 451 hp prototype race car that uses the familiar sim racing hardware as part of its real-world driver interface.
CONSPIT has detailed its collaboration with NXT on the MK1 EVO, revealing how the 290 GP platform has been adapted from sim racing hardware into the steering wheel and driver interface of a real prototype race car.
NXT officially lists the CONSPIT 290 GP as the steering wheel and display system for the MK1 EVO. The car is a 760 kg closed-cockpit prototype producing up to 451 hp and 550 Nm from a 2.3-litre turbocharged engine, paired with a six-speed Hewland TMT-200 sequential transmission.
From Sim Racing Wheel to Real Race Car
According to CONSPIT, the collaboration uses the production 290 GP as its starting point but adapts the hardware for real-world motorsport requirements. The MK1 EVO version uses a moulded carbon-fibre faceplate and high-strength aluminium rear housing, while its controls are integrated with the electronics of the actual vehicle rather than simulator software.
CONSPIT says the wheel provides direct access to functions including the fuel pump, pit limiter and selectable engine power levels, keeping essential controls within reach of the driver.
Those power settings are a major part of the MK1 EVO’s design. NXT confirms four selectable outputs of 260, 320, 390 and 451 hp, allowing drivers to progressively access the car’s available performance. The car also features adjustable traction control, electro-pneumatic paddle shifting, Marelli Motorsport electronics and digital centre and side mirrors.
A Rare Reversal of the Usual Sim Racing Formula
The project is unusual because most licensed sim racing hardware follows the opposite route: a steering wheel from a real race or road car is recreated for use in a simulator. Here, a product originally developed for sim racing has become the basis of a real motorsport control system.
It is not the first connection between CONSPIT and NXT. The earlier 350 hp MK1 already listed an NXT x CONSPIT 290 GP Steering Wheel as its HMI, but the MK1 EVO continues the partnership in NXT’s more powerful 451 hp prototype.
The MK1 EVO remains listed as Coming Soon, with final specifications and equipment subject to the customer’s configuration and applicable competition regulations. For CONSPIT, the collaboration provides an unusual real-world validation of the 290 GP concept: a sim racing steering wheel architecture being developed further to control an actual prototype race car.
