Exploits and cheats show up on iRacing

Security is always a battle. In real life, in virtual life and in every aspect you can think of. We are constantly told that we should play fair, because it is the right way to do things, but there is always a glimpse of doubt. Am I doing it wrong or are they just so good? It isn’t only about sports, it is about everything.

A good performance usually means a good value in the market society we live, and if you can show good results, your payer is also getting a good return of their investment, this is YOU. Good results are key to good status and incomes, and the way you get them isn’t usually the most important factor for your employer. We are really turning to a world where the immediacy is the meaning of life. News, money, facts, results, etc, need to be done just right now, and each second late is lowering the value of the main thing. As sad as its sound. Quality is not an important matter anymore, truth is also a deflated value and speed and numbers came to the top to stay a few years ago.

Update: Porsche Supercup event was probably postponed due to problems with track and New Damage Model.

Real life sports have been sorting this problem since at least 30 or 40 years when it was clear that cheating was going to develop a real mainstream problem to the credibility of certain sport and other disciplines. Shortcuts are a very attractive way to get rewards and stay on top for some poor challengers and sometimes the only way to keep going. Gaming and eSports are not different and also a very riskless field to test these kind of behaviors. Usually using exploits to get some advantage in a game, which are difficult to track, seem a very reasonable way to proceed for some people. In the meantime, instead of guilt and shame, they are even feeling kind of proud of being smarter than the rest of the people who just play fair. A despicable attitude easy to endorse to the new generations where every shortcut means a easier path to avoid efforts, get rewards and… happiness.

iRacing has been battling with all those during a long time. Obviously it is almost impossible to get an impenetrable shield again these breaches, but they tried and eventually got it done, at least facing to the average public. What it seems darker is how they communicate those breaches when a visible crack is on the surface. They never acknowledge those and they usually try to cover offenders. When they let the cat out, there is so many people involved (top drivers) that is very difficult to ban everybody. It seems that they prefer making a fresh start and letting offenders run away as if nothing happened.

After months of (probably) internal knowledge and rumors, finally there are some videos (rescued before deletion) on internet showing disturbing cheats and exploits which compromised every event since who knows when.An anonymous Twitter account (@nullcheats) has shown us three videos a few hours ago where you can see how exploits work. Apparently, this guy has been selling these programs to the top teams and simRacers for at least three years, he/she said before removing videos and stop sales for now. Big names are already out and recent events have been canceled. More restrictive procedures were enforced and not even a public word about what had happened, and of course, not a single word about any security-related issue.

We are just expectant fans and simRacers who await development of new events which probably will need stronger actions to be taken and enhanced communication procedures. We hope and desire a fair competition and never having to see something like these videos anymore.

  1. I have never been so competitive in anything to employ a cheat and cannot accept the fact that others see nothing wrong with it. However, given the current political climate in the US I guess I can understand WHY it happens.

    • People have been cheating in racing since the beginning of racing….just so happens this is a game instead of real life, which would seemingly make it easier to do. Really has zero to do with politics.

  2. I have been so competitive in things where I will refuse to cheat. It is a sad sad thing. I mean as the person deep down in your heart you know you aren’t as good as your results show because you’re cheating every race or big event or whatnot.. it is sad really.

  3. I see the tire temp cheat, but the last two videos, I don’t see the issue. Can someone point this out please?

  4. Who said anything about the US? Sure there’s cheaters here too but it’s way more widespread in Asian countries and a lot of hacks and cheats for games are developed there. There’s a thriving market in those countries for cheating, they even have thriving businesses where they just sit on someone’s account leveling them up for a fee. Most online games have made it well known that the Chinese servers are some of the worst to play on, some are so bad you’re extremely lucky if you find someone not hacking.

There’s been a lot of stories about why people think its so prevalent there and interviews with people involved in it. This has been an ongoing issue since the dawn of pc gaming and even console gaming isn’t completely free of it. These are the same type of people irl that are willing to lie and cheat to get ahead, it’s a worldwide issue. It has nothing to do with politics, maybe culture, or the feeling of needing to succeed or be “better” at something. All that said the politics and government here in the US is one big joke, I won’t argue that point at all.

  5. It appears the last one is where you can blow your engine or damage your car and pretty much fix it instantly without returning to the pits. At least, that’s the way it appears to me.

  6. I used to yell at my kids when they used the new “ cheat codes” for the Xbox or PlayStation! I said what fun is that? You get a game and beat it in one day! Unfortunately I have been in races where I have seen it first hand! I said something to a couple of the guys and they said no they are just really good racers. NOT I knew there was something up! I’m glad they are finally getting caught! And they are the ones that are cocky or the ones that don’t say a word during the race! Everyone has been practicing for hours and THEY come in and in one lap are posting lap times that are unattainable! I am so happy this came out!!

  7. you use to yell at your kids for cheating on a video game?
    really?
what a shitty parent you are…
    you’re a cunt

  8. I’ve never understood the concept of cheating at a video game. But worse yet now a days you call out a cheater and they don’t even have the balls to man up to cheating they just deny deny deny

  9. the 3rd video, a gt4 cayman, top speed of 280 kmh, going up to 320kmh…. blowing engine and fixing instant, still dont see somthing weird?
    look how it accelerates…

  10. If you think cheating in sport is only 30 or 40 years old, you need to read up on the history of the Tour de France. I would speculate the first ever cheat came about 5 minutes after the first ever rule.

  11. I witnessed cheating in an Indycar fixed setup session at Indy. The cheater and I pulled out of the pits at the same time. We come out of turn 4 onto the front straight. I’m right behind him in his draft, foot to the floor the entire time and he starts pulling away from me. If you’ve driven the Dallara at Indy, you know there is no way he should be pulling away from me like that with the draft. I protested. iRacing said they took car of it, but I have no idea what happened to the cheater.

This case was easy since it was a fixed setup and in a situation where I know what was occurring was not possible.

  12. I’m glad someone finally found proof that something was going on. I first pointed out something was not right a long time ago in the last official world cup race on iracing. Like some have said ” oh they are just really good” but I pointed out the guys where going some 16mph faster through the chicane at Spa. But at the time it was brushed off as there is no way to cheat iracing. Yet not long ago it finally came out that some had found exploits.

I applaud the guys who show the extreme of these cheats in the videos. Had they not it would never have been addressed seeing as when the exploits are used it’s done in a less noticable fashion so it will go unnoticed.

  13. There has been an influx of new fast drivers in iRacing, that myself and many others have been truly questioning the authenticity of some of the almost god like laps times and watching cars that seem to be doing everything just too perfectly.
Some of these new guys have close to impeccable race wins and their iRating graph looks like going from sea level to the top of Mt Everest. No dips, just a straight line from rookie to 4K iRating.
I’m well aware there’s just some very fast drivers, but statistically it’s becoming harder to ignore that the growing numbers of seeming alien level drivers who came from nowhere is getting harder to ignore.
iRacing need to double down on whatever technologies they use to find cheaters as they only need look at other AAA titles that are literally swamped with cheaters (Modern Warfare, Destiny 2, Apex Legends etc).

Many high profile streamers are refusing to play these cheater filled games and that’s bad for business.

Hopefully iRacing is on top of this, if they are foolish enough to think they can just ‘Ostrich’ this away, that will bite their dix off, in the profitable business sense of the analogy.

  14. Guys..this is a game, you are not a professional driver. Its true that is a race car simulation, but it’s just that, a simulation. iRacing is a business for take your money, and there is a lot of money in the trophy, but the first to came, the firts to win the money, with o wihout cheating.

    • That is a stupid way to look at it. Businesses purely exist because OF SIM RACING. That alone takes it past just a game. News flash, physical racing IS JUST guys going fast around a circuit. Life, the world, the universe would still exist and operate just fine if racing never or ceases to exist. That goes for every other major physical sports.

  15. iracing needs to make there own DLL plugins on wheels pedals and all, same feel same wheel ranges same everything for everyone , no opening folders files up downlaoding folder in files and changing numbers n files, then lets race
