Fanatec has launched its new Driver 467, a firmware update that brings two major improvements for users of its sim racing ecosystem: the removal of the torque limit on certain CSL wheels when used with the QR2 Lite Wheel-Side, and enhanced compatibility with Xbox consoles.
According to the company, this update enables the CSL Elite McLaren GT3 wheels (both standard and V2 versions), the ClubSport F1 Esports V2, and the CSL Universal Hubs (V1 and V2) to now access High Torque Mode even when using a QR2 Lite Wheel-Side. This marks a significant change, as previously a metal quick release was required to unlock this high-performance mode, which allows up to 25 Nm of force on bases such as the Podium DD2.
QR2 Lite Wheel-Side Approved for High Torque After Durability Testing
Fanatec explained that the decision comes after extensive durability testing confirmed that the QR2 Lite can handle high torque levels without compromising safety or functionality. In fact, newly manufactured QR2 Lite units will no longer include the torque detection pin, as it is no longer necessary.
However, not all wheels will benefit from this update. Models like the CSL Elite WRC, CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2, CSL BMW, and the Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel will remain limited to 8 Nm, regardless of the quick release used. This is due to their original design not being intended for higher torque levels.
As for the QR1 Lite Wheel-Side, Fanatec reiterated that it is not compatible with the ClubSport DD, DD+, Podium DD1, or DD2 bases. While it can be physically mounted, the company strongly advises against it—even in low torque mode—as it may cause damage.
Regarding why users might still consider upgrading to a metal QR2 even though the Lite version now supports high torque, Fanatec clarified that the metal models—particularly the CNC-machined aluminum Pro versions—remain their most advanced solutions. They not only offer greater durability but also a more refined and precise experience when mounting and dismounting wheels.
Improved Xbox Compatibility
Another key highlight of Driver 467 is the significant enhancement in Xbox compatibility. For years, Xbox-licensed peripherals were limited by system restrictions, preventing full use of additional buttons, LED displays, or information screens. This is now beginning to change with the introduction of a new SDK developed by Fanatec in collaboration with Microsoft.
Thanks to this new development, features like RevLEDs and active displays are already functional in titles such as Forza Motorsport (2023). Additionally, Fanatec has updated the button input layout across all its Xbox-compatible peripherals, an essential step in integrating these new capabilities.
Although implementation will depend on support from game developers, it is expected that more titles will adopt the new SDK to unlock advanced features on Fanatec hardware.
Driver 467 is now available for download on Fanatec’s official website.
