Fanatec Investigating GT7 1.71 Wheelbase Freezes After FullForce Update

Goodwood and Fanatec

Fanatec has acknowledged wheelbase freezes affecting some Gran Turismo 7 users following Update 1.71, which also enabled FullForce support on the GT DD Pro.

Fanatec is investigating a new issue affecting some wheelbases after Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.71, released on August 20. The update introduced several force feedback changes and officially enabled FullForce effects on the Gran Turismo DD Pro, but users began reporting freezes, shutdowns and abnormal steering behaviour shortly after installing it.

Reports on Fanatec’s official forum describe bases suddenly losing force feedback, shutting down during a race or, in some cases, pulling sharply to one side before requiring a restart. The problem does not appear to affect every user, but Fanatec has confirmed that the freezes are being investigated following the latest GT7 update.

Fanatec and Polyphony Digital Are Investigating

Fanatec representative Maurice Böschen confirmed that the company is in contact with the Gran Turismo 7 development team to determine where the fix will need to be made. Fanatec is currently assessing whether the issue can be addressed through its own software or firmware, or whether Polyphony Digital will need to release a new GT7 patch.

Update 1.71 made several changes specifically affecting steering hardware. According to the official Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.71 patch notes, Polyphony Digital adjusted force feedback torque strength and friction, understeer vibration, throttle and brake input characteristics, and introduced revised Auto Setup parameters for the GT DD Pro, GT DD Extreme and Podium wheelbases.

The update also enabled FullForce feedback effects on the GT DD Pro. Fanatec describes FullForce as an additional high-frequency feedback layer designed to communicate finer details from the car and track through compatible Direct Drive wheelbases. More information on the technology is available through Fanatec’s official FullForce documentation.

No Confirmed Fix Yet

At the time of writing, there is no official workaround or corrective patch for the new freezes. Fanatec has not advised users to disable FullForce, change FFB strength or downgrade firmware as a confirmed solution to this specific GT7 1.71 issue.

Fanatec and Polyphony Digital are continuing to investigate the cause, while Gran Turismo 7 remains on Version 1.71. A further game update or Fanatec-side fix may be required once the source of the problem has been identified.

For context, BoxThisLap recently looked at GT DD Pro disconnection issues and the QR2 upgrade. Those hardware-side disconnections are separate from the new GT7 1.71 freezes currently being investigated.
