The competitive virtual rally scene has just received a major boost. 505 Games and Supernova Games Studios, with technical support from KUNOS Simulazioni, have announced that Assetto Corsa Rally will be the official platform for the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour.
This is no small move. The fact that a simulator still in early access has been chosen for an international competition of this calibre speaks volumes about the confidence placed in what it offers. In a genre where every corner, every braking point, and every surface change matters, technical precision is not a detail, it is the heart of the experience.
This initiative aims for more than just organising a competition. The goal is to develop rally esports and broaden global participation in virtual motorsport. For many players, tournaments like this represent a genuine gateway into a discipline that has traditionally felt distant, demanding, and reserved for a select few.
The online qualifying phase begins on 12 May and will be used to select the 56 best virtual drivers. The allocation of places reflects a clear international ambition: 16 participants from Europe and 8 representatives from each of the other five regions will advance to the next stage.
Following the qualifying phase, the regional playoffs will take place. The Asia-Pacific round will be held on 23 June in Macao, while the European stage will run from 16 to 18 October in Frankfurt. Dates for the remaining regions will be announced at a later date. This format brings both structure and excitement. It is not simply about setting fast times from home, but about building a competitive pathway in which each region has its own moment in the spotlight before the grand final.
After the regional rounds, 16 virtual drivers will earn their place at the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour Finals, to be held in Shanghai in December. The defining moment will arrive on 12 December 2026, with a head-to-head clash between the two top competitors.
That final showdown promises to be far more than just a race. It will be the ultimate test of nerve, technique, and concentration, especially in a discipline like rally, where the margin for error is almost always razor-thin.
