Since the release of the new Fanatec QR (Quick Release), we’ve been eagerly awaiting additional details that better explain how this version of the Quick Release functions. This is an effort to eliminate the reliability issues we encountered with the previous QR system.

Let’s delve into some additional information about this new QR2.

Fanatec pioneered the use of Quick Releases in SimRacing equipment with the original ClubSport Wheel Base back in 2011. Maintaining compatibility across multiple generations of Bases and Wheels has been a crucial aspect of the company’s success. Now, it’s time to transition to a new connection, marking a significant milestone for the Fanatec product range.

Why did it take so long?

At first glance, a Quick Release seems like a simple device. However, motorsport-grade QRs are typically produced in small quantities, and our requirements for mass production are quite distinct. Developing a design that could be manufactured in three different ways was a substantial engineering effort. These three methods include fully CNC-machined aluminum for the Pro version, die-cast aluminum for the standard version, and carbon fiber-reinforced composite for the Lite version. The QR1 has been a central part of the ecosystem for over a decade, and we didn’t want to rush the transition to QR2 until we were completely satisfied with it.

Why should you upgrade?

The QR2 has zero play, thanks to its inclined design that eliminates even the slightest slack. This means no more rattling noises, and more importantly, you’ll feel every subtle effect of Force Feedback and FullForce. Only with the QR2 can you unleash the full potential of a Direct Drive base.

QR2 also represents a fundamental improvement over the QR1 in terms of strength, stability, ease of use, and precision adjustment. Wheels equipped with QR2 can be mounted on a Fanatec base without needing to manipulate the mechanism, making it quicker and easier to start competing. The new design also enhances the electronic connection for data and power, ensuring greater security.

Are existing Fanatec products compatible?

Switching to a new Quick Release system can be challenging, but every effort has been made to maximize compatibility with previous versions so you can retain all your excellent wheels.

If your Base and Wheel have an interchangeable Quick Release, you have full compatibility.
