The dynamic weather, lighting, reflections, and sense of speed turn every journey into a constant visual spectacle.
But the most important thing is that the graphical side doesn’t exist just to impress in screenshots. Everything is designed to reinforce the driving, the immersion, and the feeling of traveling through a living world. Even after several hours, that moment still appears in which the player simply stops competing to enjoy the road. Very few games manage to do that.
There is also an important factor that is often ignored: the context of the industry. 2026 is being a strong year for video games, but also one where many releases have arrived with technical problems or controversial decisions. Against that backdrop, Forza Horizon 6 appears as an extremely solid, polished product that is aware of what it wants to offer.
It doesn’t try to become something it isn’t. It doesn’t try to add unnecessary mechanics or follow passing trends. It simply commits to offering constant fun, accessible driving, and a huge open world designed to be enjoyed. Years ago, Forza Horizon was seen as the “fun spin-off” compared to more serious motorsport offerings. Today the situation is completely different.
The franchise has become one of the most important brands at Xbox and the absolute benchmark of the arcade genre. With Forza Horizon 6, Playground Games not only confirms its talent, it also demonstrates a consistency that very few studios maintain entry after entry. Because achieving a great game once can be luck. Doing it six times in a row is another story entirely.
A Clear Candidate for Game of the Year
There is still a lot of 2026 ahead, but it is impossible not to think of Forza Horizon 6 as one of the major candidates for GOTY.
Driving games may not dominate general conversations the way other, more narrative or cinematic genres do, but Playground Games has shown that an experience focused solely on making the player have fun can still become one of the most important releases of the year.
