Forza Horizon 6 Drift Attack brings a permanent competitive drifting activity to Shimanoyama Circuit, combining traditional Horizon drift scoring with new Clipping Zones, dedicated leaderboards and a 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition reward. Playground Games introduced Drift Attack with the September 7, 2026 update as another Shared World activity alongside Car Meets, Drag Meets and Time Attack Circuits.
Unlike a traditional race, there is no finishing position or fastest lap to chase. The objective is simply to generate the highest possible drift score while repeatedly lapping Shimanoyama Circuit.

How to unlock Drift Attack in Forza Horizon 6
Drift Attack is unlocked after obtaining the Yellow Wristband through the main Horizon Festival progression.
Once that requirement has been completed, Drift Attack appears at Shimanoyama Circuit with its own map icon. There is no separate loading screen or traditional event lobby required to start a run.
Instead, players can drive directly to the circuit from the open world and pass through the Drift Attack gantry to begin scoring. The activity can be played alone, alongside a Convoy or around other players already present in the Shared World.
Unlike some temporary Evolving World activities, Shimanoyama’s Drift Attack layout is permanent. Playground Games has also confirmed that additional temporary Drift Attack locations are planned for future Series updates.

How Drift Attack scoring works
Drift Attack uses the same basic scoring system found in Horizon Drift and Forza Horizon 6’s existing Drift Zones.
Playground Games has not published an exact mathematical formula for the mode, so there is currently no confirmed percentage showing precisely how much additional score comes from angle, speed or other individual factors.
The important difference is the introduction of Clipping Zones around Shimanoyama Circuit.
When a player is actively drifting inside one of these marked areas, the points being generated receive an additional boost. That makes driving the correct line significantly more important than simply maintaining one continuous slide around the circuit.
The objective is therefore to combine a strong drift with accurate positioning through as many Clipping Zones as possible.
There is also no lap limit. Players can continue circulating Shimanoyama and attempting to improve their performance rather than having to restart the entire activity after every lap.
How to use Clipping Zones for higher scores
Clipping Zones are what separate Drift Attack from a conventional Drift Zone.
Instead of simply trying to stay sideways for as long as possible, players need to position the car correctly while maintaining the drift through designated parts of the circuit. Any drift points earned while the vehicle is inside those boundaries receive a scoring boost.
That means the fastest or most dramatic-looking line is not necessarily the highest-scoring one. A slightly more controlled drift that keeps the car inside a Clipping Zone may ultimately produce more points than a larger slide that misses the scoring area completely.
The best approach is to prioritise consistency before maximum angle. Learn where each Clipping Zone begins, position the car early and try to enter the zone already in a stable drift rather than initiating the slide once you are inside it.
Smooth transitions are equally important. Correcting the car aggressively between corners can cost momentum and make the next clipping point considerably harder to hit.
As leaderboard strategies develop, the quickest route through Shimanoyama’s Clipping Zones is likely to become increasingly important.
What is the best car for Drift Attack?
There is currently no confirmed Drift Attack meta car, and it is too early to describe any particular vehicle or tune as definitively the best option. Drift Attack leaderboards display the drivetrain used for each entry, which should make it considerably easier to compare how RWD, AWD and other configurations perform as more players begin setting competitive scores.
For drivers learning the circuit, a predictable rear-wheel-drive car with manageable power is likely to be more useful than simply selecting the most powerful drift build available.The priority should be a car that can hold a stable angle while still allowing precise changes of direction between Clipping Zones.
Traction Control and Stability Management can also restrict the wheelspin and rotation needed for sustained drifting, so experienced players will generally want to experiment with those assists disabled. Manual transmission can provide additional control over engine speed and wheelspin, while tuning differential behaviour, gearing and steering response can help make a car more predictable across consecutive corners.
Those are general drifting recommendations rather than a confirmed optimal Drift Attack setup. As leaderboard data develops, specific cars and tunes may emerge as the preferred choices.
How to unlock the Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition
Drift Attack is also integrated into the Horizon Festival Campaign, where players can earn a special 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition.
The Forza Edition has been prepared specifically around drifting and is one of the main rewards associated with the new activity.
Playground Games has also added the standard version of the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S to the Autoshow, meaning players who simply want the original road car do not need to unlock the Forza Edition first. The exact campaign objectives required for the reward are shown through the in-game Horizon Festival progression, so players should follow the Drift Attack campaign path rather than looking for the car as a standard Autoshow purchase.
This also gives Drift Attack a progression incentive beyond simply competing for leaderboard positions.
Drift Attack leaderboards explained
Drift Attack includes both in-world and Convoy leaderboards, similar to the systems already used by Time Attack Circuits and Drag Meets.
The addition of drivetrain information is particularly useful for drifting because it allows players to see what type of car configuration produced each score. That should help identify whether the strongest leaderboard runs are eventually dominated by rear-wheel-drive builds or whether AWD configurations develop into a competitive alternative.
It also gives players a useful reference point when choosing cars and tunes. Instead of simply copying the highest-scoring vehicle, it will be possible to compare different approaches to the same circuit.
With unlimited laps available, Drift Attack is designed around repeatedly refining those runs rather than completing the activity once and moving on.
Tips for improving your Drift Attack score
The first priority should be learning the Shimanoyama Circuit rather than immediately chasing maximum drift angle.
Knowing where the Clipping Zones are positioned allows you to plan each transition in advance and enter them with the car already settled. Missing a zone because the car is carrying too much angle can sacrifice more score than driving slightly more conservatively.
Maintaining momentum is also important. Large corrections, spins or completely straightening the car between corners can disrupt the rhythm of a run and make subsequent zones harder to approach correctly. Experiment with different gears and throttle levels until the car can maintain a predictable slide without requiring constant handbrake corrections.
Finally, use the leaderboard drivetrain information. As players begin finding faster techniques, comparing cars and drivetrains around Shimanoyama should provide a much better indication of the developing Drift Attack meta than simply relying on conventional Forza Horizon drift builds.
For now, the safest strategy is straightforward: maintain a controllable drift, hit the Clipping Zones accurately and prioritise repeatable laps over one spectacular corner.
