Forza Horizon 6 may no longer reach PlayStation 5 before the end of 2026, despite Microsoft’s previously announced release window. The PS5 version has not been cancelled, but Xbox has yet to confirm a delay or provide a new launch date.
The PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 6 reportedly will not launch in 2026, according to new information from The Verge senior editor Tom Warren. IGN says it has also independently confirmed the report, although Microsoft and Playground Games have not officially announced any change to the game’s existing PS5 release plans.
Microsoft originally confirmed in January that Forza Horizon 6 would arrive on PS5 later in 2026, following its May 19 release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. That wording remains unchanged on the official Forza Horizon 6 website, which still states that the PlayStation version is coming “later this year.”
PS5 Release Reportedly Moving Beyond 2026
Warren said on August 27 that he no longer expects Forza Horizon 6 to appear on PlayStation 5 during 2026. IGN subsequently reported that it had been able to confirm the information independently, giving additional weight to the possibility that Microsoft’s original launch window will not be met.
However, neither report provides a replacement release date. There is currently no official confirmation that Forza Horizon 6 has moved to 2027, and nothing indicates that the PlayStation version has been cancelled. Microsoft has also not explained whether development, scheduling or another factor is responsible for the reported change.
The situation therefore remains different from a formally announced delay. Playground Games continues to advertise the PS5 edition, and the official Forza FAQ still lists PlayStation 5 as an upcoming platform. The PlayStation Store itself does not provide a specific date, instead allowing players to wishlist the game ahead of its eventual release.
Xbox Has Not Changed Its Official Release Window
Forza Horizon 6 launched first on Xbox Series X|S and PC in May as part of Microsoft’s staggered multiplatform strategy. The PS5 edition was announced alongside those versions, but without an exact day or month, giving Playground Games additional development time before bringing its open-world recreation of Japan to Sony’s console.
Microsoft has made several changes to its wider multiplatform strategy during 2026, but there is currently no official evidence connecting those decisions directly to Forza Horizon 6’s reported PS5 delay. Similarly, suggestions that the timing could be influenced by other major releases later this year remain speculation unless Microsoft provides further details.
For now, the safest position is that Forza Horizon 6 remains officially announced for PlayStation 5, while current reporting indicates that its previously stated 2026 window is no longer expected to be met. Xbox has yet to confirm the change, and no new release window has been announced.
