A new car will be added to rFactor 2 as part of the content released in Q3 2022. It’s the highly popular Caterham Academy, the flagship car of the British national leagues, in this case. Furthermore, it is completely free, so all Studio 397 simulator users will be able to download it from the Steam Workshop for free.
Caterham, or more specifically the Lotus 7 on which this model is based, has long been present and prominent in motorsport. This car is beloved by drivers and racers for its simplicity of design and maintenance, as well as its golden combination of handling and low weight. It is the epitome of what a “driver’s car” should be. Caterham has become synonymous with the kind of car that anyone gets behind the wheel and goes racing, happy to be pushed on the road or on the track, and unafraid to offer the odd overtake from behind, without ever becoming overly dramatic in terms of being out of control.
The Caterham Academy, which is part of Caterham’s pyramid of championships to help drivers progress and develop their racing skills across the British manufacturer’s multitude of series, will be released to rFactor 2 as free content during the Q3 2022 content drop.
The Academy, like the cars in the top series, is slightly underpowered in the higher categories, with the Ford Sigma-derived engine capable of 115mph top speed and a 0-60 time of around 5.3 seconds. On paper, these are not supercar figures, but when combined with the fact that the car weighs only 625kg, including the driver, you quickly realize that this is a vehicle capable of producing an exceptional driving experience while also being capable of delivering some really close and intense racing on the many different circuits available in rFactor 2.
