Gamescom 2026 is putting 49-inch super-ultrawide displays back in the sim racing spotlight, with new models from AOC, iiyama and Samsung pushing panoramic gaming monitors to increasingly higher refresh rates as an alternative to traditional triple-screen setups.
Sim racing hardware at Gamescom 2026 extends well beyond steering wheels and pedals. AOC and iiyama are both showcasing new 49-inch displays aimed at providing the wide field of view required by racing simulators, combining panoramic layouts with refresh rates reaching 240 Hz.
The format effectively provides the horizontal screen space of two 27-inch QHD displays without a bezel through the centre of the driver’s view. While triple monitors still offer greater potential horizontal coverage, a single 49-inch screen avoids bezel alignment and requires fewer display outputs while keeping installation considerably simpler.
UPDATE: August 27, 2026: Samsung has now raised the bar considerably higher at Gamescom with the new 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 G95SJ. The 2027 model combines a 5120 × 1440 Dual QHD QD-OLED panel with a 360 Hz refresh rate, making it the world’s first 49-inch DQHD gaming monitor to reach that figure. Samsung has not yet announced pricing or a commercial release date.
Samsung Pushes 49-Inch OLED to 360 Hz
Samsung’s newly announced Odyssey OLED G9 G95SJ significantly raises the specifications seen elsewhere at Gamescom, offering a 49-inch QD-OLED panel, 5120 × 1440 Dual QHD resolution and 360 Hz refresh rate.
Samsung claims it is the world’s first 49-inch DQHD gaming monitor with a 360 Hz refresh rate. Response time is rated at 0.03 ms GtG, maintaining the extremely fast pixel response associated with OLED technology while providing the panoramic field of view that has made 49-inch displays particularly attractive for sim racing.
The G95SJ uses Samsung’s fifth-generation QD-OLED panel with Penta Tandem technology. According to the manufacturer, the new five-layer panel structure is up to 1.3 times more efficient and offers up to twice the lifespan of the previous generation. It also adopts an RGB Stripe subpixel layout intended to improve text clarity and reduce colour fringing.
Peak brightness is rated at up to 1,300 nits in a 3% window under Samsung’s specified conditions.
The Odyssey OLED G9 also includes a Dual Mode. Users can run its native 5120 × 1440 resolution at 360 Hz or switch to 2560 × 720 at up to 720 Hz. The lower-resolution mode is primarily aimed at competitive gaming rather than simulation, but it demonstrates how far Samsung is pushing refresh rates with its 2027 Odyssey generation.
For sim racers, the native DQHD 360 Hz mode is considerably more relevant. It retains the full 32:9-style panoramic workspace while increasing refresh-rate headroom beyond the 240 Hz displays also being shown at Gamescom.
Samsung has not yet announced pricing or a specific release date for the Odyssey OLED G9 G95SJ, with availability expected to vary by market.
AOC AGON PRO Combines 49 Inches With QD-OLED
The AOC AGON PRO AGP497UCZD uses a 48.9-inch QD-OLED panel with a 5120 × 1440 Dual QHD resolution, 32:9 aspect ratio and 240 Hz refresh rate.
AOC specifically highlights driving and flight simulators as use cases for the monitor, pointing to the expanded peripheral vision provided by its panoramic format. The panel uses an 1800R curvature and offers a quoted 0.03 ms GtG response time, Adaptive Sync and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification.
Connectivity includes DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, two HDMI 2.1 ports and USB-C with 90 W Power Delivery, while an integrated KVM allows the same keyboard and mouse to be shared between connected systems.
For sim racers, DisplayPort 2.1 is particularly relevant given the combination of 5120 × 1440 resolution and 240 Hz refresh rate, which places significant bandwidth demands on the display connection as well as the GPU driving it.
iiyama Builds Its New 49-Inch Monitor Around Sim Racing
iiyama is taking an even more explicit approach with the new G-Master GCB4986DQSNP-B1 Gold Phoenix, placing the 49-inch monitor directly inside a dedicated sim racing area at its Gamescom booth.
The company has partnered with Thrustmaster for the demonstration, giving visitors an opportunity to test the new display in a complete racing setup before its commercial launch. iiyama says the monitor’s panoramic format and wide field of view make it particularly suitable for racing simulators.
On-site Gamescom information lists a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1000R curvature, making the iiyama considerably more aggressively curved than AOC’s 1800R QD-OLED. It uses a VA panel rather than OLED and also includes a USB hub and 90 W Power Delivery.
iiyama plans to bring the new G-Master to market in September 2026, although final regional pricing and complete specifications should be checked when the commercial product page becomes available.
49-Inch Ultrawides Continue to Target Sim Racers
Neither 49-inch monitors nor 32:9 gaming displays are new, but their presence at Gamescom shows manufacturers continuing to target sim racing as one of the strongest applications for the format.
The arrival of Samsung’s 360 Hz Odyssey OLED G9 also changes the comparison. AOC and iiyama are targeting 240 Hz, while Samsung is now pushing the same broad 49-inch DQHD category to 360 Hz. Reaching those frame rates at 5120 × 1440 will still require substantial GPU performance, particularly in demanding simulators.
At 5120 × 1440, a super-ultrawide screen demands substantially fewer pixels than a typical triple-4K configuration while still providing much more peripheral vision than a conventional 16:9 monitor.
The trade-off remains field of view. A 49-inch ultrawide cannot completely surround the driver in the way a properly configured triple-screen setup can, while VR remains a different proposition again. However, the simplicity of a single display, absence of bezels and improving OLED and high-refresh-rate technology continue to make the format attractive for compact sim racing rigs.
Gamescom visitors can try the iiyama G-Master GCB4986DQSNP-B1 with Thrustmaster hardware, while AOC is displaying its AGON PRO AGP497UCZD and Samsung has now used the event to unveil the Odyssey OLED G9 G95SJ, pushing the 49-inch category from 240 Hz to 360 Hz.
