Gran Turismo and Dunlop became partners last weekend, and they officially announced the partnership at the Berlin event. Gran Turismo 7 and the Gran Turismo World Series will enjoy this partnership.
On 20 September, Polyphony Digital Inc. announced that tyre manufacturer ‘DUNLOP’ will become the official tyre partner for the Gran Turismo World Series and Gran Turismo 7.
DUNLOP is a tyre brand with over 130 years of history, established in the UK in 1888 with the introduction of a practical pneumatic tyre by inventor and veterinarian John Boyd Dunlop, a world first. Today the brand is owned and operated by Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. of Japan, selling tyres for cars and motorcycles around the world. (Excluding certain regions and products).
In 1920 DUNLOP established a research facility to research rubber from various angles to improve their tyres. In 1927, they achieved a world record speed of 200mph (320kph) for the first time in history, and were also the first to discover the hydroplaning effect in 1960, where tyres lose grip on wet surfaces. They have continued to lead innovations in tyre technology throughout the years.
DUNLOP has also seen many successes in motorsports, especially at the Le Mans 24 hour race where high durability is absolutely critical for a tyre. They won the 2nd edition of the race in 1924, and continued to tally many victories over the years. DUNLOP was also the tyre that enabled the Mazda 787B to become the first Japanese overall winner of Le Mans in 1991.
DUNLOP will become the Official Tyre Supplier starting from the Gran Turismo World Series 2025 Round 2 – Berlin, and will be appearing in-game in various forms through future updates of Gran Turismo 7.
