Gran Turismo 7: Latest Update Unveils Toyota GT-One and More

Kazunori Yamauchi, the mastermind behind the Gran Turismo series, has dropped a bombshell on social media, letting us know that the next update will hit tracks this week, and it comes loaded with new features with three new cars, including a classic fan favorite.

Yamauchi didn’t just tease us with static images this time; he upped the ante with videos of the upcoming cars. Talk about stepping up the game! And guess what? One of the stars of the show is none other than the iconic Toyota GT-One, also known as the TS020.

If you’ve been around the Gran Turismo block, you know this baby’s got history. It’s been a beloved pick since its debut in Gran Turismo 2. Toyota pulled out all the stops with this bad boy, aiming for glory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in the wild ’90s.

Now, let’s talk about rare. Toyota only whipped up two road-ready versions of the GT-One, and guess what? They never hit the market. Nope, these babies were built for one thing and one thing only: tearing up the track. And tear it up they did, even if luck wasn’t always on their side. Remember that nail-biting moment in ’99 when the #3 car had a blowout right before the finish line? Oof, talk about heartbreak.

Now, the big question: which version of the GT-One are we getting? It’s a mystery, folks, but judging by the sleek lines and that rear wing, my money’s on the 1999 LMGTP beast.
But hold onto your helmets, ’cause we’ve got more.

Riding shotgun with the Toyota is a pair of modern beasts from the Volkswagen Group. First up, we’ve got the second-gen Audi R8. About time, am I right? Powered by a mean 5.2-liter V10, this beauty’s got all the makings of a track titan. And with that rear wing, you know it means business. Will it be the all-wheel-drive coupe or the Plus model? Only time will tell.

See you on the track!
