Polyphony Digital has officially announced Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV, a major free update arriving in two parts in October and December 2026 with two circuits, 12 new cars and several new ways to race.
Revealed during PlayStation’s September State of Play, Spec IV will kick off Gran Turismo’s celebrations ahead of the series’ 30th anniversary in 2027. Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi says the amount of content planned is large enough that the update has been split into two separate releases.
The first part arrives in October 2026, followed by the second in December. More details, including the identity of the 12 cars, will be revealed during the Gran Turismo World Series event in Singapore on October 3.
Sportsland SUGO arrives in October
The first confirmed circuit is Sportsland SUGO, the Japanese motorsport venue that has frequently appeared on Gran Turismo community wish lists but has never previously been available in the series.
SUGO will arrive with the October portion of Spec IV. Located in Miyagi Prefecture, the circuit is known for its elevation changes, flowing sequence of corners and distinctive Dunlop bridge.
Its inclusion gives Gran Turismo 7 another modern Japanese racing venue and confirms one of the circuits that had been widely discussed by the community ahead of the State of Play. Other rumoured tracks, including Twin Ring Motegi, have not been announced as part of Spec IV at this stage.
Autumn Ring finally returns to Gran Turismo
The December update will bring back Autumn Ring, one of Gran Turismo’s original fictional circuits.
Autumn Ring first appeared in the original Gran Turismo and became a recurring part of the series before disappearing from more recent entries. Its return to Gran Turismo 7 continues Polyphony’s gradual revival of classic fictional locations alongside tracks such as Trial Mountain, Deep Forest Raceway and Grand Valley.
The timing is particularly notable after Autumn Ring appeared in reports surrounding a Gran Turismo-themed LEGO PlayStation set shortly before the State of Play announcement. Polyphony has now officially confirmed the circuit itself for GT7, although no additional layouts or variations have yet been detailed.
Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV adds 12 cars
Across the October and December releases, 12 new cars will be added to Gran Turismo 7.
Polyphony has deliberately held back the complete vehicle list, confirming that the individual models will be revealed later. That means cars previously rumoured by the community should not yet be considered part of Spec IV.
There are, however, other cars already known to be heading to Gran Turismo 7 independently of today’s announcement. Mazda previously confirmed the RX-VISION GT3 EVO for Gran Turismo 7, but Polyphony has not yet stated whether it forms part of the 12-car Spec IV line-up.
The same caution applies to speculation surrounding modern GT500 machinery and other race cars discussed before the State of Play. Until Polyphony publishes the official list, those remain separate from today’s confirmed information.
Shuffle Races and Online Drift Trials are coming
Spec IV will also expand Gran Turismo 7’s online racing options with the arrival of Online Drift Trials and the return of Shuffle Races.
Online Drift Trials will allow players to compete around control, precision and style rather than conventional lap times. Polyphony has not yet detailed the scoring structure or matchmaking format, with further information promised ahead of release.
Shuffle Races return from previous Gran Turismo games with randomized conditions designed to force drivers to adapt rather than rely on a predetermined race setup. Polyphony describes the feature as an online format where changing conditions can create different strategic challenges from one race to another.
The update will also introduce new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, additional progression elements and a new Concierge feature for buying cars. Full details of how these systems work have not yet been announced.
Family Mode arrives in December
The December half of Spec IV will introduce Family Mode, a new feature intended to make Gran Turismo 7 easier to enjoy with players of different experience levels.
Polyphony describes it as a more welcoming starting point when sharing the game with family and friends, while still providing something different for experienced GT7 players. Exactly how assists, cars, events or difficulty will be handled has not yet been explained.
The feature is another indication that Spec IV goes beyond a conventional monthly content update. Gran Turismo 7 has continued receiving substantial revisions throughout 2026, including the 1.71 update and its accompanying physics changes, but Spec IV represents a considerably broader expansion of the game.
More Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV details arrive October 3
Polyphony Digital will reveal more about both halves of Spec IV during Gran Turismo World Series 2026 Round 3 in Singapore on October 3.
That presentation should provide a clearer breakdown of the 12 cars, additional features and exactly which content belongs to the October and December releases.
For now, the confirmed package consists of Sportsland SUGO in October, Autumn Ring in December, 12 cars across both updates, Online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races, new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, progression additions, a car-buying Concierge and Family Mode.
Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV will be released as a free update for Gran Turismo 7, with the first half arriving in October 2026 and the second following in December.
