The Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.49 was revealed in a surprising announcement at the Gran Turismo World Series live event in Montreal. Typically, updates are announced through trailers and teasers, but this time, the news came during a live event, catching many fans off guard.

The update is notable for several reasons. Firstly, it marks the return of the Eiger Nordwand track, a beloved circuit from the PlayStation 3 era. Secondly, it adds a substantial number of new cars—six in total—to the game, enhancing the variety and depth of the vehicle roster.

Additionally, the update includes new circuits for the Gran Turismo Sophy offering, new tires, wheels, and a mysterious mention of “new physics.” This mix of nostalgic elements and new content makes Update 1.49 one of the most anticipated updates for Gran Turismo 7.

The Return of Eiger Nordwand

The Eiger Nordwand circuit has a rich history in the Gran Turismo series. It first appeared in Gran Turismo HD, the precursor to Gran Turismo 5, as the only track available in the game. The circuit, though only 1.5 miles long, quickly became a favorite among players due to its challenging layout and stunning scenery.

The track was further expanded in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and later in Gran Turismo 5 and 6, which introduced three off-road courses in the Eiger region. These expansions added depth to the track and allowed players to experience the rugged terrain and beautiful landscapes of the Swiss Alps. However, Eiger Nordwand was notably absent from Gran Turismo Sport, much to the disappointment of long-time fans.

Six New Cars Joining the Gran Turismo 7 Roster

This update brings a mix of classic and modern vehicles, each with its own unique appeal and performance characteristics. The new cars include:

  1. Ferrari F430 Scuderia 2007
  2. Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 2008
  3. Ruf RGT 4.2 2016
  4. BMW M3 (E36) 1997
  5. Subaru Impreza WRC 1998
  6. Genesis Gran X Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept

Additional Features

The Gran Turismo Sophy offering expands to include two new circuits: the Nurburgring 24h course and Autodrome Lago Maggiore’s Full Course. These new tracks provide fresh challenges and opportunities for players to test their skills.

Furthermore, the update brings new tires, new wheels, and “new physics.” While the exact details of the new physics are yet to be revealed, it is expected to have a significant impact on the gameplay experience.

The introduction of new physics could mean changes to car handling, dynamics, and overall performance, potentially leading to a reset of Circuit Experience and Licence leaderboards.
