Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.68: New Mazda, Renault, and Chevrolet Cars Expand the Garage

GT7 Update 168

Gran Turismo 7 continues to expand its vehicle roster with a new free update that introduces three very different models: a restomod inspired by American racing, an iconic Japanese sports car from the 1990s, and a popular European crossover. Update 1.68, available starting March 12 for all PlayStation players, also adds new events to the World Circuits mode and additional locations for Scapes.

Developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the simulator continues to strengthen its strategy of regular content updates with new driving experiences that combine historic vehicles, modern models, and additional events within its competitive structure.

Three new cars with very different personalities

The update introduces three vehicles representing distinct automotive philosophies, broadening the range of driving styles available in the game.

Chevrolet Camaro 1969 Race-Mod: a Trans-Am inspired restomod

The Chevrolet Camaro 1969 Race-Mod is a modern reinterpretation of the classic muscle car that debuted in 1966 to compete directly with the Ford Mustang.

The original Z28 model was designed to meet homologation requirements for the Trans-Am Series, featuring a 4.9-liter V8 engine and a configuration clearly focused on racing performance.

Gran Turismo’s reinterpretation incorporates elements of the restomod movement, blending classic styling with modern engineering. The exterior removes the traditional chrome details and replaces them with black carbon finishes, while also adding a wide-mouth bumper, a ducktail-style rear spoiler, and a central exhaust.

The interior follows a similarly aggressive approach, featuring a roll cage, bucket seats, and a sequential shifter. Under the hood, a supercharged V8 pushes output to an impressive 657 horsepower, turning this version into a true track-focused machine.

Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 Type R (FD): the 1990s Japanese icon

Another highlight of the update is the Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 Type R (FD), one of the most recognizable Japanese sports cars of the 1990s.

The third generation of the RX-7, internally known as the FD3S, debuted in 1991 with significant revisions compared to its predecessor. The model adopted a wider body to accommodate larger tires, but thanks to the extensive use of aluminum it managed to keep its weight close to 1,260 kg (about 2,778 lb), a remarkable figure for its class.

The car retained the famous 13B Turbo rotary engine, but added a sequential twin-turbo system that increased output to around 251 horsepower and 30.0 kgfm of torque. The combination of low weight and a compact engine made the FD the fastest RX-7 produced up to that point.

The model line continued evolving through several variants until the arrival of the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R in 2002, a special edition created to celebrate 25 years of RX-7 production.

Renault Captur S Edition TCe 140: the bestselling crossover

The third vehicle included in the update is the Renault Captur S Edition TCe 140, representing the continued popularity of the compact SUV segment.

Originally introduced in 2013, the Captur quickly became one of the French manufacturer’s most successful crossovers. Its second generation, launched in 2019, brought significant improvements in ride quality, driving dynamics, and technology.

The model is available with multiple powertrain configurations depending on the market, including plug-in hybrid variants that take advantage of electrification technology developed from Renault’s Formula 1 experience.

In Gran Turismo 7, its addition broadens the garage’s diversity with a vehicle designed for everyday driving, contrasting with the more performance-focused nature of the other two cars in the update.

New World Circuits events

Alongside the new vehicles, Update 1.68 introduces additional competitions in the World Circuits mode, expanding the activities available to players:

  • European Sunday Cup 400 – Dragon Trail (Gardens Reverse)
  • Japanese Clubman Cup 550 – Kyoto Driving Park (Yamagiwa Reverse)
  • American Clubman Cup 700 – Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta
  • World Touring Car 800 – Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

These new races broaden the rotation of events available in the game’s main mode, offering additional challenges across different performance levels and vehicle categories.

New locations for Scapes mode

Finally, the update also introduces new locations for the Scapes mode, the game’s photography feature that allows players to capture hyper-realistic images of their cars in real-world environments around the globe.

This mode has become one of the title’s most popular features, enabling players to recreate automotive photo sessions with a level of detail comparable to professional photography.
