For the last several years, technology has been introduced in all professional fields and the motorsport world has not been an exception. Have the best driver is not always a synonym to winning races. Aerodynamics, engine, suspensions and tires are essential for a race car.
The main goal of this article is how to take all the information provided by Assetto Corsa Competizione and how use MoTeC for display the data and improve our driving perfomance or our setups.
First of all, we need to define what is “telemetry”.
What is telemetry?
Telemetry is a technology that allows remote measurement of physical quantities for later analysis. Applied in the motorsport world, it will allow us to gather all the information provided by the vehicle to analyze desired aspects like car behaviors that affect the dynamics of the vehicle or driver inputs.
Our main advantage using sims is that we have to completely forget about testing the sensors in the different parts of the vehicle. iRacing offers all this in a simple way.
What do I need?
Assetto Corsa Competizione: The sim that we will be using in our case. Installed and configured correctly.
MoTeC’s i2 data analysis software has been developed over a number of years with valuable input from professional race teams worldwide. It delivers an extensive package of powerful analysis tools and innovative data management features, whilst maintaining a simple and intuitive user interface.
Note: Data Analysis -> i2 Pro version (64 or 32 bits)
Installing our workspace
- Launch Assetto Corsa Competizione and choose a track and car. Then close it.
- Now in your “documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione /MoTeC /Workspaces” you will find a folder called “base_ACC”.
- Copy this folder into the “documents / MoTeC / i2 / Workspaces” folder and it will appear through the available workspaces within MoTeC i2.
- If you wish, you can double-click the file “base_ACC.i2wsp-archive” and it will install automatically, but in some configurations the windows may not recognize how to run this file.
How can I export telemetry?
- To enable ACC telemetry export, all you have to do is go to the “Electronics” section of the car settings and set the number of laps you want to save.
- Every time you drive at the track, ACC will automatically export the number of laps selected. If you do more laps than selected, the last ones will be saved. For every time you go to the track, a new telemetry session will be exported. That way, you can create different setups that export a different number of laps, giving you the ability to have a practice session that saves a lot of telemetry laps and race settings that save less or no telemetry laps, while maintaining your RAM. and HDD space under control during long runs.
- The telemetry export laps are saved in the “documents / Assetto Corsa Competizione / MoTeC” folder. If you have the MoTeC i2 software installed, simply double-click the “.ld” files and they will open within the telemetry software, ready to analyze.
See you on the track!
