We just saw on the Massachusetts boys’ social media the picture of a car that seems to be (or at least very similar) to a Formula Ford. Being closest to the Formula Vee, it would add to the rich array of single-seaters within the simulator itself, such as, Indy Pro 2000, Dallara F3, Formula Renault 3.5, F1, Formula Ir-04.
The Formula Ford is recognized in the world for several aspects. Great F1 drivers have taken their first steps after karting in these cars (Ayrton Senna, to name one). Visually it is a formula easy to distinguish, as it does not have a front or rear wing, which can give it a fun and different handling to other single-seaters with more aerodynamic load.
A Formula Ford develops a maximum power of between 115 and 140 CV, weighs around 415 kg, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds and can exceed 220 km on long straights. Most of its components are street car adaptations to have a moderately reduced budget. These characteristics make it one of the most chosen for young people who rise from karting.
We will be attentive to the place the car will have on the platform, if it will be free or paid, and what type of series it will develop. Currently the category has been exported from Great Britain to different parts of the world. In Great Britain itself it is now known as the Formula Ford Festival, but in other places it retains its classic Formula Ford, although it has also been transformed into Formula 2000 but with modifications that differentiate it from the car we are about to know.
Will the races be fun? We put a chip on it, being a low-power car and almost no aerodynamic load. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint us.
