The Production Car Challenge (PCC) is a well-loved series in iRacing that typically features shorter races with a focus on slower, more accessible cars.
For the first time, this series is transitioning into an endurance format, challenging drivers to tackle a 4-hour race on the VIR Grand Course.
Unlike other endurance events that often showcase high-speed GT3s and prototypes, the PCC Endurance Event emphasizes skill and strategy over outright speed. This makes it an excellent opportunity for drivers who enjoy racing production-style cars and want a break from the high-octane pace of faster classes.
The Cars
Each car in this event brings its own strengths and challenges, requiring drivers to adapt their strategies accordingly.
Mazda MX5
The MX5 is a well-rounded choice with a fuel range of about 1.5 hours per stint. Its manageable pace and forgiving handling make it an excellent option for both newcomers and veterans.
Renault Clio
The Clio offers slightly more fuel efficiency, allowing for stints up to 1.6 hours. This car’s nimbleness shines in tight corners, making it a great choice for the technical sections of VIR.
Toyota GR86
With a fuel range of over 2 hours, the GR86 has the potential to be a one-stop contender. Its balanced performance and endurance-friendly design make it a strong choice for strategy-focused drivers.
BMW M4 GT4 (2018)
The GT4 is the fastest car in the lineup, with a fuel range of approximately 1.1 hours. It’s ideal for those who want to push the pace but requires careful management to stay competitive over the race distance.
