iRacing: A New Ferrari Is Coming—But Which One?

F40 Ferrari

Since time immemorial, Ferrari has been the soul of motorsport, a brand that ignites passion and unleashes adrenaline with every roar of its engines. So when iRacing drops a hint about the arrival of a new Prancing Horse on its platform, the community goes wild.

And this time, it’s no exception.

It all started with a cryptic message from iRacing developers, a simple tease that sparked speculation among sim racers. What Ferrari is coming?

To understand what’s coming, we need to analyze iRacing’s strategy. Their catalog is designed to integrate into well-structured racing series, which means the next Ferrari won’t just be a trophy car but a machine built for battle.

Looking back, the IMSA GTO era was a wild battleground, and Ferrari’s contender from that time remains an underrated gem. With its raw power and aggressive handling, the Ferrari F40 LMS would be a dream addition to iRacing.

The Audi 90 GTO already prowls the virtual tracks, but imagine the sheer spectacle of these two titans clashing once again. If iRacing were to bring this legendary Ferrari back to life, it would need a competitive series that lets its ferocity shine. And let’s be honest—who wouldn’t want to relive the golden days of turbocharged monsters roaring through endurance circuits, fighting for every inch of asphalt?

But if we’re talking Ferrari in F1, we can’t ignore the future. The SF24/SF25, the machine Ferrari will compete with in the 2025 season, would be a next-level addition to iRacing. The platform has already proven it can handle modern open-wheelers with the Mercedes W12, W13, and the Super Formula.

However, the big obstacle here is F1’s secrecy with its data. Licensing? Tough. Sustained interest after the initial hype? Doubtful. As much as I dream of tearing through Spa or Monza in a modern Ferrari F1 car, I don’t see it happening.

But if what we’re looking for is pure history, then let’s talk about the Ferrari 312T. This is the kind of car that would make motorsport purists stand up and applaud. A perfect rival for the Lotus 49, a brutal challenge for those who enjoy taming beasts from another era.

Its handling is a dance between madness and genius, and in the right hands, it would be an insanely fun machine. If iRacing wants to keep classic F1 alive, this would be the pick.

Now, if we bet on the most probable option, all eyes are on the Ferrari 296 Challenge. This machine is a step above the 296 GT3 and fits perfectly into iRacing’s structure. A car with more power, slightly heavier than a GT3, but with all the aggression needed to thrill virtual drivers. It’s not a niche model; it’s a warrior that we would see week after week in iRacing’s official series.

So the question remains: What will be the next Ferrari in iRacing? A legendary F1, a classic gem, F40, or the 296 Challenge?

What do you think? Which Ferrari would you love to see roaring in iRacing?

See you on the track!
