iRacing has revealed one of the most important details about its upcoming Career Mode: players will not need to purchase additional cars or tracks to progress through it. The new single-player mode will form part of the standard iRacing subscription and will automatically provide access to the content required at each stage of a career.
The system represents a major change from the normal iRacing ownership model. However, the unlocked content will only work inside Career Mode. Cars and tracks will not transfer to official multiplayer racing, Test Drive or other areas of the wider iRacing service.
How Content Access Works in iRacing Career Mode
Cars and tracks will unlock automatically as players progress through their chosen career. This means a driver can move through different championships without purchasing every vehicle or circuit required along the way.
The content will also re-lock after completing each race week or season. Players therefore receive access when Career Mode requires it rather than permanent ownership. iRacing designed the system specifically to remove purchasing barriers from its new single-player experience.
This approach also gives the developers access to iRacing’s complete content library when designing progression routes. Career ladders will not need to avoid certain cars or circuits simply because players may not own them.
Seven Career Paths Planned for Launch
iRacing plans to launch Career Mode with seven different careers. Each will offer different routes through motorsport, allowing two players pursuing a similar goal to follow different regional or category-based paths before reaching higher levels.

Progression will focus on racing performance and objectives rather than simply completing events. Players will need to meet standings targets and other goals to move forward. Failure can lead to additional attempts or even demotion, although iRacing will include adjustable difficulty for players who prefer a more relaxed experience.
Career length will also be adjustable. Race distances and schedule depth will increase as drivers move into higher levels, but players will have options to change both schedule length and individual race duration.
Career Mode Will Be Included With the Subscription
- iRacing says Career Mode will require no additional purchase beyond a standard subscription. This applies to the mode itself and to the cars and tracks needed to complete its progression structure.
- The distinction remains important. Career Mode does not change iRacing’s normal content model outside the single-player experience. If a player wants to use one of those cars or tracks elsewhere on the service, the normal licensing requirements will continue to apply.
- For Career Mode itself, however, players will be able to experience content that they may never have previously purchased. That could also introduce users to different racing categories before they decide whether they want to use the same content in online competition.
What iRacing Career Mode Includes at Launch
Career Mode will combine racing, learning, objectives, progression and global leaderboards. Players will receive a limited number of retries during each season, although using those attempts will reduce their overall leaderboard score.
Some traditional career features will not arrive on day one. iRacing says the initial version will not include sponsorship management, team budgets or a driver-owner system. Instead, the developers are focusing on racing and progression before expanding the platform with additional systems.
iRacing also plans to add new careers and special Career Events over time. Save Game support appears on the longer-term roadmap as well, although the company has not provided a release schedule for those additions.
Development has now reached another major milestone. iRacing describes Career Mode as technology-complete, with the team currently focused on bug fixes, usability testing and final polish. The company came close to announcing a release date in its August 2026 Development Update but decided the mode still needs additional work. As a result, iRacing has not yet confirmed exactly when Career Mode will become available.
When it does launch, removing individual car and track purchases from Career Mode could make it one of the most accessible ways to explore iRacing’s extensive content library. Players will still need a subscription, but they will be able to follow complete single-player career paths without buying every piece of content required along the way.
