iRacing: Forecast, rain.

Yesterday we got our first look at rain being integrated into the UI of iRacing. It’s the first step towards implementing weather outside of the simulator, so it seems like we’re getting closer to having it in our homes.

Here’s what we can gather from the image:

  • There will be established weather for a date that covers a period prior to the session.
  • Real weather might affect the simulator’s weather, but there will be limitations to ensure everything works normally.
  • The state of the track will carry over from practice to qualifying and then to the race with its established times.
  • Conditions will change no matter the session. There are transitions between states, which means that the intensity of the rain will also change.
  • We don’t know yet how detailed it will be. The forecast is just a possibility. We don’t get any info about wind or rain direction, speed, or approximation.
  • We’re not sure if this information will be available in the iRacing HUD, or how it will be implemented. We can compare it to Gran Turismo 7 ‘s HUD, which in my opinion is very precise.

We’ll have to wait and see what solution is ultimately implemented since neither Assetto Corsa Competizione nor Automobilista 2 have live radar information (as far as I know).

See you on the track!
