Last week, we learned that Straight4 Studios had begun laying off employees following a less successful launch than expected. Interestingly, today we heard from iRacing itself that they’ve hired some of the people who were let go just a week ago.

The video game industry has always been ruthless. From notorious crunch periods, the demands of superstar developers like Kojima, and Rockstar’s wild production cycles to the buying and selling of small studios that later end up dissolved. Not long ago, EA bought Codemasters, only to later liquidate several related assets, lose the WRC license, and eventually be sold to a Saudi conglomerate.

All of this could make for countless movies, not just now, but since the 1980s. Even within sim racing, we’ve seen cases like Motorsport Games, whose former CEO was involved in questionable dealings. Fortunately, those times seem to be behind us, and in this case, iRacing appears to have acquired some of the talent that Ian Bell has let go. iRacing confirmed this in a video released this morning, and honestly, few people know the scene as well as those from PMR, so something good might just come out of this.

The first to notice this was Jardier, so credit goes to him.
