The new McLaren 720S Evo GT3 has been one of the most anticipated additions to iRacing, and its surprise release has sparked interest within the community. After testing it in a few races, the car is noted to offer a more refined experience compared to its predecessor.
The 720S Evo GT3 still feels very grounded, but it is now more manageable.
In contrast to the previous model, which was more critical and demanding, this new McLaren offers greater stability, especially in slow corner exits, where it doesn’t tend to oversteer as much. However, in medium to high-speed corners, the car shows a certain amount of understeer, which can make handling challenging in some situations. Despite this, if you can keep it on the right line, the car is very stable.

Just in time for the start of 2024 Season 4, the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO has joined iRacing with Monday’s Patch 1 release. Joining the ever-growing iRacing GT3 grid, the new car is enabled for both rain and AI racing, and will replace the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in all series.
Since 2019, the McLaren 720S GT3 has proven itself one of the world’s most competitive GT3 platforms. That success only continued in 2023 with the introduction of the 720S GT3 EVO, which improved upon the car’s aerodynamics, suspension, overall balance, and other key elements. The 720S GT3 EVO is a popular customer car the world over.
After a long-standing association with the McLaren brand at both its automotive dealerships and in the GT4 class, Pfaff Motorsports brought the car to IMSA’s GTD Pro class for the 2024 season for the first time. The team scored its first podium with the 720S GT3 EVO at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May, adding to the long history of McLaren GT3s running up front the world over.
Owners of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 at the time of this Patch deployment, who purchased the car within one year of the release of the 720S GT3 EVO, will receive iRacing Credits as compensation for the release of this newer version of the car.
The first impressions leave good feedback, but it will be interesting to see how it performs in longer races, particularly concerning tire wear. Additionally, it remains to be seen how it will fit into the Balance of Performance (BoP) in future updates.
