iRacing Introduces the New Ligier JS P320

We don’t remember many quarters in which iRacing has presented so much new content and cars. Yesterday iRacing presented the Ligier JS P320, an LMP3 class car from the various endurance championships of the FIA and IMSA.

The new prototype joins the platform as a new car, adding to the Formula 1600, Clio Cup, and BMW LMDh (with rumors of more LMDh cars coming). We must acknowledge that this is a bet that surprises simulator fans, mainly due to the development of the new Hybrid cars that compete in endurance races, which completed the series: LMDh, LMP2, and GT.

However, now we will have the complete multi-class. We will wait to see how the classes will be divided, because at the moment there is no series with four categories (LMDh, LMP2, LMP3, GT). Currently, LMP3 is part of the regional FIA championships (LeMans series in Europe, Asia) and also in the IMSA, but not in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Presented during the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Ligier JS P320 is one of the four new-generation chassis selected by the ACO – the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. The worthy heir to the Ligier JS P3, with its modern hypercar look and its characteristic Ligier front, the Ligier JS P320 is instantly recognizable.

The Ligier JS P320 retains all the characteristics of the Ligier JS P3 that have forged its reputation: its robustness and ease of driving. With a new bodywork 95% different, Ohlins shock absorbers, a new more powerful Nissan V8 VK56 engine, an adapted cooling system, and aerodynamics optimized for all circuits, the goal of the Ligier JS P320 is to surpass its older sister.

As for what the car will offer, we are cautious in imagining its success (or not) with the platform’s audience. We believe it will be an easier or simpler car than its older siblings, which can lead to a populated and evenly matched series, but we do not know what role it will play among the prototypes and GTs within the series in which it competes.
