For iRacing, staying ahead means constantly innovating and pushing boundaries. One area where iRacing has been focusing its efforts is in the realm of graphics and rendering technology. As the backbone of visual realism, the graphics engine plays a crucial role in delivering an immersive racing experience to users worldwide.
This means delivering a performant experience across a myriad of hardware configurations, from single displays to VR setups and motion platforms.
Moreover, iRacing is built for the long haul. With plans extending into the 2030s, the graphics engine must be not only cutting-edge but also sustainable, with the flexibility to adapt and evolve alongside the platform’s growth.
Building the Future
In its quest for a graphics engine that aligns with its vision, iRacing explored various third-party options. While some engines offered impressive visuals and tooling, they fell short in meeting iRacing’s specific requirements. Thus, the decision was made to embark on a journey to develop a bespoke graphics engine tailored explicitly for iRacing’s needs.
The journey to the future of iRacing’s graphics technology is underway.
Progress is already underway in iRacing’s graphics engine project. Recent milestones, such as successfully loading track content in a rudimentary version of the renderer, signify promising developments. However, the road ahead requires patience, as creating a new graphics engine from scratch is a meticulous process.
While specifics about the new graphics engine are still under wraps, iRacers can anticipate developments on the horizon. Updates and enhancements will be shared in due course, promising to elevate the visual fidelity and realism of the simulation.

Maybe 2030 ?
Lmao …. That was funny !!
2030 is the lifespan for the new engine.
I predict something inbetween form summer 2025 and december 2025.
Too late, by the time they release it, visual technology would have moved the mark yet again and iraing will still look outdated.
Very possible!!
Luckily graphics are the thing actual sim racers care about the least haha.
So there is some graphics department for iRacing? This game while being awesome sim is ugly as hell. And with this timeline span I don’t see any possible change in graphics department.
