iRacing random weather testing will begin with Season 4 2026 as the simulator experiments with less predictable race conditions. The company plans to test new weather re-roll systems in selected series rather than changing the entire service at once. These tests will generate conditions either for individual races or for each race day. iRacing will then use feedback and collected data to guide future changes.
The experiments form part of the wider iRacing Season 4 update. They follow continued discussion about how the simulator uses its dynamic weather system in official racing. iRacing says development has continued behind the scenes despite relatively little public information in recent months.
How iRacing Random Weather Will Work
iRacing plans to test two different approaches. The first will generate a new weather re-roll for each race. The second will generate new conditions for each race day. Both systems aim to increase variation without replacing the existing dynamic weather simulation.
Per-race re-rolls could produce the biggest difference for regular competitors. Two races using the same series and circuit could potentially feature different conditions. Drivers would therefore have less certainty about what they will face before entering a session.
The per-race-day option takes a more conservative approach. Conditions could remain consistent across races held during the same day before changing for another race day. iRacing has not yet decided which system could eventually become the standard.
Selected Series Will Test More Rain
iRacing will not introduce these changes everywhere immediately. The development team is working with community managers from a selection of series to test the new weather behavior. Some of those series will also use forecasts with a greater chance of rain.
This approach gives iRacing an opportunity to study how different systems affect participation and racing. It also allows the developers to collect feedback before considering a larger rollout. The company has not yet named the series that will take part in these Season 4 tests.
The change is notable because iRacing already has a sophisticated dynamic weather simulation. The latest work focuses less on creating rain itself and more on how the service generates and distributes weather conditions between official sessions.
What Per-Race Weather Could Change
A per-race system could make weather strategy more important. Drivers may need to prepare for several possible conditions instead of expecting the same scenario every time they enter a particular combination.
That uncertainty could affect setup choices, practice and race preparation. A driver who practices only in dry conditions may enter a session that develops differently. Another race in the same series could then produce a different weather scenario.
However, iRacing has not confirmed fully random weather across every official race. The company specifically describes these systems as weather re-roll tests. Season 4 will help determine how much variability works best before iRacing considers wider changes.
iRacing Plans More Dynamic Weather Changes
The Season 4 experiments are only one part of iRacing’s longer-term weather roadmap. The company says it continues to work on deeper condition variability, more realistic weather patterns and improvements to the overall atmospheric simulation.
That means the first re-roll tests should not represent the final version of the system. Instead, they give iRacing another way to evaluate how changing forecasts can improve official racing without introducing major service-wide changes immediately.
For Season 4, the important change is simple: iRacing random weather is becoming less predictable in selected tests. Per-race and per-race-day re-rolls will provide the first real indication of how the service could handle more varied conditions in future seasons.
