iRacing has just announced some cool updates for GT racing in the upcoming Season 4 of 2023. The changes aim to make the virtual GT ladder more like real-world racing while also adding new and fun racing opportunities.
So, why are they making these changes? In the real world, the GTE class is being phased out, and GT3 racing is becoming more popular for multiclass events. To keep up with real-world racing, iRacing is making updates to match that. However, they know there are still many fans of GTE racing on their platform, so they’ll still offer racing for those cars.
One big update is at the top of the GT ladder. The IMSA iRacing Series will move to the A level, and there will be another fixed setup series running at different times but with the same format.
They’re also changing the European Sprint Series. It will move down to the B level and become a GTE only series called the GTE Sprint Pure Driving School Series. The races will be a bit shorter, now lasting 45 minutes instead of 60.
The European Endurance Series is making a comeback, but with a new name – the “Global Endurance Pure Driving School Tour.” This series will race on tracks all around the world and keep the 6-hour team racing format, but they’ll replace the GTE class with the GT3 class.
iRacing wants to give the community plenty of time to adjust to these changes. So they’re giving everyone a heads up well in advance, in case some racers need to increase their license or are thinking about buying new content.
There’s even more exciting news and updates for GT racing, but iRacing is keeping that a secret for now. So stay tuned for more surprises!
With Season 4, 2023 just around the corner, iRacing is stepping up its game to provide an awesome GT racing experience that’s closer to real-world action.
Happy racing! 😀
