iRacing: Should The Weather Vary Between Each Time Slots?

With the recent introduction of rain in iRacing, the simulation has taken a significant step forward in replicating real-world racing conditions.

However, amidst the excitement of this new feature, a pertinent question arises: should the weather vary between each time slot in iRacing races?

Current Weather Implementation

Currently, iRacing employs a system where weather forecasts remain consistent across all time slots within a given week.

This means that regardless of when a race takes place, the weather conditions are predetermined and do not change throughout the week.

While this system offers predictability for race preparation and strategy, it also results in a lack of variability and excitement, particularly in rain-enabled races.

Pros and Cons of Current Weather System

Pros:

  • Predictability for race preparation and strategy.

Cons:

  • Lack of excitement and variability, particularly in rain-enabled races.
  • Loss of uncertainty and adaptability after repeated races in the same time slot.

Suggestions

A potential compromise could involve implementing a refreshed forecast for each time slot while maintaining consistency within splits.

This approach would provide a balance between unpredictability and strategic planning.

However, it’s crucial to consider the potential impact on race participation and enjoyment for different types of players, from casual racers to dedicated competitors.

While there are differing opinions within the community, it’s clear that the introduction of dynamic weather opens up new possibilities.

  1. What you’re suggesting is exactly how it’s implemented.

Even though it’s the same forecast the actual conditions are different in each time slot. But they’re the same for all splits for that time slot.

    • Exactly! Did the author of this article even read the release notes or run any races in the rain. Last week for GT3 fixed at Le Mans, some slots were raining, others, damp or dry conditions. No idea what the author is thinking
