iRacing: This Is How the New Anti-Blinking System Will Work

If you’ve ever been in the middle of a race in iRacing and had to deal with a car that disappears and reappears uncontrollably, you know how frustrating it is.

Imagine you’re fighting for first place, everything is going perfectly, and suddenly, your rival’s car vanishes completely. A second later, it reappears right in front of you, and you crash with no way to avoid it.

The infamous “blinking” is a connection issue that affects not only the player with internet problems but also everyone racing around them. It’s not just annoying—it can ruin entire races.

How does the new anti-blinking system work?

The system monitors each player’s connection stability in real time. If someone is losing too many data packets, an alert will be triggered.

If a player’s connection is too unstable, instead of allowing them to keep disrupting others with their ghost car, they will be automatically sent to the pits until their connection improves. Alternatively, they may continue racing in “ghost car” mode, meaning they won’t interact with other drivers and won’t score points.

If the issue is resolved within a reasonable time, the player can rejoin the race. However, if the problems persist for too long, it will likely be too late to recover positions.

Before this update, the system allowed up to 15 seconds without sending data packets before kicking a player out. The problem was that even with intermittent disconnections, the car kept appearing and disappearing, creating chaos. Now, the priority is everyone’s experience, not just that of the player with connection issues.

Now, all that’s left is to wait and see if the system works as well as promised.

See you on the track!
