KartKraft is Left Abandoned

Mid last year, we echoed Motorsport Games’ intentions to release KartKraft on consoles. At the same time, the original developers were tasked with creating an Indycar game, plunging them into a sea of tasks that proved overwhelming for a very small team that, until then, had focused on smaller developments.

This past week, we learned about the 38-person staff reduction at MSGM, which affected the studios acquired in the UK and Australia. KartKraft was initially developed by the latter before being acquired in 2021. The studio, called Black Delta, aimed to gradually introduce many features to KartKraft that ultimately didn’t materialize.

With the studio’s acquisition, priority shifted to the other mentioned tasks: the console port and the creation of a sequel, as well as work on a hypothetical Indycar title that never came to be. In this case, the parent company’s inaction condemns two titles whose potential outcomes will remain unknown – whether they could have been finalized (KartKraft) or even reached an alpha stage (Indycar). We’ll see what happens with the license and if events unfold similarly to what occurred with the BTCC.
